Organiser's Description

Join us for the Cohen Family Upstander 5K & Family Day, generously supported by Buzz & Connie Dow, on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. at historic Union Terminal.

Whether you're a seasoned runner, casual walker, or simply looking for a meaningful day with family and friends, the Upstander 5K offers something for everyone. Participants will enjoy a scenic route through Cincinnati's West End and Price Hill before returning to Union Terminal for a full morning of activities celebrating resilience, community, and the power of standing up for others.
Registration includes a scenic 5K run/walk, free admission to all Cincinnati Museum Center museums and exhibits for the day, an exclusive Upstander 5K t-shirt, a finisher medal featuring iconic Union Terminal, a pre-race warm-up led by a Mayerson JCC fitness instructor, breakfast snacks and refreshments, a DJ, and a high-energy finish line atmosphere.

FAMILY DAY ACTIVITIES INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF UNION TERMINAL INCLUDE:
Therapy dogs
Taylor Swift-inspired friendship bracelet making
Bedazzling stations
A hair and face glitter bar,
The Strengths in Bloom flower cart
Pickleball courts open for play

Following the race, guests are invited to a special program at 10 a.m. in Reakirt Auditorium featuring Kathrine Switzer and Roger Robinson in conversation with Holocaust & Humanity Center CEO Jackie Congedo.

Switzer is an iconic athlete, author, and activist who became the first woman to officially register and run the Boston Marathon in 1967, helping spark a global movement for women in sports. Robinson is one of the world's leading running writers and historians, an award-winning author, former elite runner, and recent world champion in the 80+ cross-country division. Together, they will discuss perseverance, resilience, and the ways individuals can create meaningful change through everyday actions.

The program will also include the presentation of the 2026 Dr. Al Miller Upstander 5K Perseverance Award to Lauren and Justin Berg. The award honors individuals who exemplify resilience, determination, and the courage to move forward in the face of adversity. Lauren and Justin's inspiring journey through life-changing challenges reflects the spirit of Dr. Al Miller, a Holocaust survivor, U.S. Army veteran, and lifelong advocate for perseverance whose resilience inspired everyone around him.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to support Echoing Voices: Unpacking History, the Holocaust & Humanity Center's hands-on educational program that brings survivor stories and primary source investigations into classrooms. A donation of $50 sponsors one archival investigation box, helping students engage with stories of survival, resilience, and rebuilding through the experiences of Holocaust survivors connected to Cincinnati.

Seating for the Reakirt Auditorium program is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

REGISTER TODAY AND BE PART OF A DAY THAT CELEBRATES RESILIENCE, INSPIRES ACTION, AND BRINGS OUR COMMUNITY TOGETHER.
