In our fast-paced world, finding a moment of peace can feel like a luxury. But what if one of the most effective tools for mental well-being was as simple as stepping out your front door? Crook County On The Move and NAMI Central Oregon have teamed up to bring you a weekly walking group this fall where we're exploring the profound mental health benefits of walking outside.

Walking isn't just about physical fitness; it's a powerful practice for the mind. Studies have shown that spending time in nature, even for short walks, can significantly reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. The rhythmic motion of walking, combined with the sensory experience of the outdoorsthe fresh air, the sounds of birds, the feeling of the sun on your skinacts as a natural stress reliever. It helps to clear the mind, reduce rumination, and promote a sense of calm.

Regular outdoor walks can also boost creativity and improve focus. By disconnecting from screens and the constant barrage of information, you allow your mind to wander and make new connections. It's a simple, accessible, and free way to invest in your mental health.

    By joining our NAMI Gather walk, you're entering a safe, welcoming space to connect with others and enjoy the physical and mental health benefits of fresh air, movement and community. Every step we take together builds community and brings hope. We are all on this wild ride called life together, and building connections reminds us that we are never alone. Join us for a six-week walking program. We'll meet at the Juniper Street Picnic Area at Ochoco Creek Park on Mondays at 10 am on the following dates: September 8th September 15th September 22nd September 29th October 6th October 13th Please don't hesitate to register even if you can't participate in all 6 walks, any amount of participation is welcome and encouraged! Walkers with the highest participation will be entered in a drawing for a PRIZE at the end of the 6-week series!
