Get ready for an inspiring day of fitness and community at the first annual Mind over Miles event, taking place on Sunday, September 27, 2026, in Avon, Lorain. This uplifting occasion features a 5K Run and a 1.5 Mile Walk, both designed to promote recovery, mental health awareness, and veteran suicide prevention. The event kicks off at 8:00 AM with registration and packet pick-up, followed by the race at 9:00 AM. Participants can look forward to a chip-timed 5K and an untimed 1.5 Mile option, making it accessible for everyone regardless of their fitness level.
The event is inspired by the Goggins Challenge, a grueling test of endurance, but Mind over Miles focuses on the importance of mental well-being and community support. Registration is just $25 for pre-registration until September 26, with race day registration available for $30. Each participant will receive a short-sleeved t-shirt and enjoy post-race refreshments. Awards will be presented to the top overall male and female finishers, as well as the top three runners in various age categories. Grab your running shoes, bring your friends, and join us for a day that celebrates

Organiser's Description
The inspiration for the first annual Mind over Miles 5K Run and 1.5M Walk came from our Board member, Bret Buike (Buckeye Bret) who donated to Recovery Resources, all the proceeds of his third annual Goggins Challenge.
The Goggins 4x4x48 challenge is a simple concept that was pioneered by ultramarathon runner David Goggins. Depending on your level of ability, you either walk or run 4 miles every four hours for 48 hours which totals 48 miles. Bret had a vision to make the weekend one focused on recovery, mental health, and veterans suicide prevention and to raise not only money but awareness of these important issues. And we were proud to have him complete his challenge at the Mind over Miles event.
