Organiser's Description
ALL PROCEEDS AND DONATIONS WILL GO DIRECTLY TO OUR FIRE AFFECTED COMMUNITY!
LET'S RALLY UP TO HELP OUR FRIENDS AND FAMILIES!
FIRECRACKER 5K PARTICIPANTS,
Tomorrow we come together to celebrate Independence Day the best way we know how... through community, resilience, and supporting one another.
This year's Firecracker 5K has taken on an even greater purpose. All proceeds from the race will be donated to local families affected by the nearby wildfire. We will also be accepting cash donations at the event, or you can make a donation online through our website if you would like to further support those in need. Every contribution, big or small, will help our neighbors during this difficult time.
Like many in our community, one of our Race Directors has been directly impacted by the fire and has been evacuated from her home. As a result, she may not be able to attend tomorrow's event. While she was unable to finish gathering all of the race materials, we are incredibly fortunate to have an amazing group of Southern Colorado Runners Club volunteers who have stepped in to ensure everything is ready for race day. We appreciate your patience and understanding as our community navigates these challenging circumstances.
Race Day Safety
The safety of our participants, volunteers, and spectators remains our highest priority. We are continuing to monitor the air quality and weather conditions and will communicate any significant changes if necessary.
Please listen to your body throughout the event. Remember:
You are welcome to walk instead of run.
If at any point you begin to feel the effects of the smoke or experience discomfort, stop immediately and ask a volunteer for assistance or make your way back to the pavilion.
Participate at a pace that is comfortable for you, and please use your own discretion when deciding whether to race based on your personal health and comfort level.
Tomorrow is about much more than finishing a race. It is about coming together as a community, celebrating our nation's independence, and showing what makes Southern Colorado so special and neighbors helping neighbors when it matters most.
Thank you for being part of this year's Firecracker 5K. We look forward to seeing you at the starting line and appreciate your support, your understanding, and your generosity.
Happy Fourth of July,
Southern Colorado Runners Club
Firecracker 5K Race Committee
