Organiser's Description
RAPTOR RUN 3K PRESENTED BY THE ST. AUGUSTINE ALLIGATOR FARM
BENEFICIARY- EASTERN INDIGO SNAKE SAFE
The Eastern Indigo Snake SAFE (Saving Animals from Extinction) program's primary goal is to contribute to the conservation of this iconic snake species through captive breeding, rearing, and reintroduction into areas where is has disappeared. This large, non-venomous, glossy snake is native to the southeast region of the United States. Once found in southeastern Mississippi, southern Alabama, southern Georgia, and all of Florida, the range of EIS has been reduced to southeastern Georgia and peninsular Florida. The eastern indigo snake favors longleaf pine ecosystems but only 6% of the historical forests in the southeastern US exist resulting in snake population declines due to habitat loss and fragmentation. Fire suppression, development, and logging are the major threats affecting longleaf pine habitats.
Since listing as a Federally Threatened species in 1978, significant conservation efforts have been made to reestablish this species throughout parts of its historic range in southern Alabama and the Florida Panhandle. The Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA): Saving Animals From Extinction Program brings together groups of AZA members with field-based partners to enhance conservation success for threatened species. The SAFE mission is to combine the power of zoo and aquarium visitors with the collective expertise of AZA members and partners to prevent animal extinction.

3K USATF Certified Course # FL20012JK

The purpose of the USATF course certification program is to produce road race courses of accurately measured distances. For any road running performance to be accepted as a record or be nationally ranked, it must be run on a USATF-certified course. In addition, the certification program is very important to the average road racer, as well as those of exceptional speed. Most runners like to compare performances run on different courses, and such comparisons are difficult if course distances are not reliable. No one can truly establish a personal best if the course distance is not accurate.
