Organiser's Description
Join us for the first in a two-part series honoring our fallen service men and women. First, the RunAbout Honors 5K on Saturday, May 25, 2024 starting at 8:00am in beautiful and historic Bedford, VA. The second event (registration forthcoming) is the annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb. By registering for both events, participants will be eligible to receive a commemorative series shirt and be entered to win exclusive prizes from our series sponsors. Registration for both events is encouraged but not required.
What does your registration fee support? As some may know, May is Mental Health Awareness month, and in honor of our veteran communities and their families, we are donating a portion of proceeds from this event to supporting local veteran mental health services. We hope to grow this event to the extent that we can support several regional and national programs as well.
IMPORTANT EVENT INFO:
To reduce unnecessary waste, we will NOT have a water stop on the course. We encourage participants to carry water if they anticipate needing hydration.
Blank bibs will be provided so that participants can write the name of the fallen service member they are honoring. If participants don’t have a service member, we will have a 26 foot banner with the names of all the service members who have lost their lives since the beginning of the Global War on Terror. You can also visit the link and complete the free registration and receive an email with a service member. Memorial Day — wear blue: run to remember (wearblueruntoremember.org) This registration DOES NOT count for registration for the RunAbout Honors 5K. If participants would like to decorate their bibs before the race, blank ones will be available for pick up at RunAbout Sports Roanoke. We recommend that you learn about your fallen service member to have a stronger connection to the purpose behind this event.
This event is NOT timed. As a memorial and commemorative event, we want everyone to have the opportunity to reflect on the purpose of this event without the pressure of competition. However, if you wish to time yourself with personal GPS devices or fitness trackers, you are welcome to do so.
