Organiser's Description
On my honor, I will do my best Scout Oath
Steve Prefontaine is often thought of as the greatest American runner. At the time of his death in 1975, he held every American record from the 2000M to 10000M. Thousands upon thousands of fans flock to Pres Trail and Pres Rock in Oregon every year to pay homage to Pre and his love of running and doing his best. This year, Gulf Winds Track Club and Scouts BSA salute Steve Prefontaine with the 5K and 1 Mile race at Wallwood Boy Scout Reservation in the beautiful forest near Lake Talquin. The 5K course is a GWTC Grand Prix event for both adults and youth and features a sandy run through a long-leaf pine forest with the sound of birds, as well as a challenging tour of Wallwood Scout Reservation through campsites, around a rifle range, a camporee field, a fire ring, a brief view of Lake Talquin and a foot bridge reminding runners of the twelve tenets of the Scout Law. The 1 mile race is also a GWTC Youth Grand Prix event. A Steve Prefontaine dress-alike contest is part of the post-race awards and party, as well as awards to the Scout Troop and Pack with the highest participation.
The Mile run/walk will begin at 8:30am. The 5K will begin at 9:00am.
