Event summary
Get ready for a thrilling and unique experience at the Scare-A-Thon Marathon and 10K on Saturday, October 31, 2026, in Grafton, Lorain! This exciting event will take place within the secure perimeter of the Grafton Correctional Institution, featuring a new course that includes a roughly 2-mile loop. Participants will complete three laps for the 10K and thirteen laps for the marathon, all while running alongside residents who are committed to self-improvement through the Running2bwell training program.
This event not only offers a chance to challenge yourself but also supports a great cause, as all proceeds will benefit the Running2bwell initiative. With a goal to raise funds for essential running gear, including $6,000 worth of shoes recently purchased for the participants, your involvement makes a real difference. Runners will receive a custom t-shirt, and while this is a strictly regulated environment—where security is paramount—it's also an opportunity to foster community and support those on their journey to wellness. Remember, registration is limited to the first 30 participants, so secure your spot early for this one-of-a-kind race!

Organiser's Description
This unique race will take place completely within the Grafton Correctional secure perimeter. *New course* We will run a roughly 2 mile loop; 3 laps for the 10K and 13 for the Marathon.
We will be running with residents that are part of the Running2bwell training program that recently started at GCI and all proceeds will support Running2bwell. We recently bought $6000 worth of shoes for the men at GCI and we're hoping to raise that amount at the race.
Runners will receive a custom t-shirt (sizes not guaranteed). Most importantly, you'll have the chance to run some miles with men that are working hard to improve their lives on their home court.
Female runners are allowed but there is a strict dress code. Shirts must have sleeves, shorts must go mid-thigh. No tight or form-fitting apparel. More rules may follow as I get them.
Do not give anything (hats, shirts, etc.) to the men at GCI.
Guest runners must be 21 or over.
Guest runners cannot be currently on an inmate visitation pass.
For security and logistical reasons we're limiting entries to the first 30 to register.
YOU MUST ARRIVE BY 6:00 AM TO CLEAR SECURITY. This isn't your usual race.
RUNNERS CANNOT BRING ANYTHING EXCEPT WATER BOTTLES, HATS, AND WATCHES. No phones, headphones, etc. You must bring a photo id and will need to lock your car keys in a locker at the entry point. Everyone is subject to search. While this is one of the safest facilities in the state, it's still a prison, and security for all is the highest priority.
If you can't make it, please consider making a donation of any size to support this new and exciting program.
