On Sunday, September 14, the Shaker Lakes Parklands will be filled with the energy and enthusiasm of runners, hikers and community members of all ages when the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes hosts its annual and always-popular Hike & Run event. WE INVITE YOU TO JOIN THE FESTIVITIES! The price will increase on race day so sign up early! Well-behaved leashed dogs are allowed on hikes and runs if they stay near the back.

Register for a casual stroll along the Nature Centers Stearn's Trail and Southerly Park to take in all the beauty of the outdoor features of NCSL. For this special hike, leashed pets are welcome on Nature Center trails! Approximate time: 45 minutes, includes some accessible areas, but dirt trails and stairs are to be expected. Approx 1-2 miles. Difficulty: Easy Children under 2 are free. Children 3 to 12 years old are $20. -
4 Mile Rim of the Gorge Hike

Look down and enjoy sweeping views of the gorge. A bit of history retained in some of the remains of past uses will be noted. Approximate time: 2-2.5 hours, varied terrain. 3-5 miles. Difficulty: moderate. Not recommended for children under 10. Children 10 to 12 years old are $20. -
5-6 Mile Gorge Hike

Challenge yourself with this difficult hike, which spans Doan Brook between the Nature Center and the Graffiti Dam just north and west of MLK Blvd. After going around Lower Lake and crossing Coventry Rd, we will follow the trails closest to Doan Brook, passing many historical points along the way. Hikers will climb small hills, negotiate tree roots, loose rocks, and low-hanging branches, so good hiking boots, hiking poles, and above all, good balance are recommended! Explore this beautiful trail, where you can hardly believe that heavily traveled roads are only a few dozen feet away. Approximate time: 2 1/2 3 hours, varied terrain. 4-6 miles. Difficulty: strenuous. Not recommended for children under 10. Children 10 to 12 years old are $20. -

OPENS JUN 25Led by Dr. Roy Larick. Join us for a guided hike through the wooded area east of and across the street from the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes. This part of the Shaker Parklands follows the North Branch of the Doan Brook offering scenic views of the stream. Hikers will navigate about 1 mile of winding, uneven, unimproved paths, and low-hanging branches during this short, but moderate hike. Approximate time: 1 1/2 hours, varied terrain. 1-2 miles. Difficulty: moderate. Due to terrain, best for ages 10+. Children 10 to 12 years old are $20. -
5-Mile Four Lakes Historical Hike

OPENS JUL 25Led by the Cleveland Hiking Club. This hike will wind around Lower Lake, back to the Nature Center, through Southerly Park, past Marshall Lake and Green Lake, then up to Horseshoe Lake Park. Hear about the history of multiple stops along the way including the Upper and Lower Lake dams, the sawmill/picnic area just off Coventry Road, and Jacob Russell's grave. Hikers will navigate varied terrain, mostly dirt trails and sidewalks. Approximate time: 2 hours. 5 miles. Moderate difficulty.
