This year's run/walk is not just about fitness; it's a celebration of solidarity with market women and peasant farmers in Limonade, Haiti, who are striving for literacy. As part of a vibrant tradition, participants will honor the spirit of Carnival by walking and running to raise funds for essential class supplies and teacher stipends in support of the ALFA adult literacy program. Join us in making a difference and celebrating 21 years of literacy in Limonade and beyond, while enjoying a fun day filled with community spirit, camaraderie, and purpose!
Organiser's Description
We will walk and run in solidarity with all the market women and peasant farmers in Limonade who, like Polidor, are struggling to become literate.
At Carnival time, participants in our literacy program undertake a cross country walk. They celebrate literacy, recruit more learners, and dance and sing through rural communities. Ours will be a companion event to help raise funds for basic class supplies and teacher stipends.
ALFA, an extensive adult literacy program, is a project of Friends of Haiti at St. Bartholomew Parish, in partnership with the parishes of St. Ann & St. Isadore in Limonade. This year, we celebrate 21 years of literacy in Limonade Haiti and beyond.
