Participants will walk and run in solidarity with market women and peasant farmers in Limonade, Haiti, who are striving to improve their literacy. The event serves as a companion fundraiser for ALFA, an adult literacy program supported by Friends of Haiti at St. Bartholomew Parish. In its 21st year, the initiative helps provide essential class supplies and teacher stipends, empowering learners to thrive. Join us for a day filled with purpose, fitness, and fun as we dance, sing, and celebrate the importance of literacy together!
Organiser's Description
We will walk and run in solidarity with all the market women and peasant farmers in Limonade who, like Polidor, are struggling to become literate.
At Carnival time, participants in our literacy program undertake a cross country walk. They celebrate literacy, recruit more learners, and dance and sing through rural communities. Ours will be a companion event to help raise funds for basic class supplies and teacher stipends.
ALFA, an extensive adult literacy program, is a project of Friends of Haiti at St. Bartholomew Parish, in partnership with the parishes of St. Ann & St. Isadore in Limonade. This year, we celebrate 21 years of literacy in Limonade Haiti and beyond.
