As we run or walk the 5K distance, we will not only enjoy the camaraderie of fellow participants, but also contribute to a cause that impacts over 6 million people in the U.S., including many in our own community. The event will feature a silent auction, health fair, and educational resources about Alzheimer's. November is National Alzheimer's Disease Awareness month and for the past 14 years, we have kicked it off with a 5k walk/run to raise awareness and support for Alzheimer's in our community.
The last couple of years have been trying but one thing has not changed; our caregivers still need support, and we need to continue to raise awareness of this terrible memory-robbing disease. The annual Alzheimer's Association Facts & Figures for 2023 are astounding. Over 6 million people in the US have Alzheimer's disease, including 75,000 Kentuckians. The disease affects 1 in 3 older adults, and it is the 6th leading cause of death in the US today for which there is no cure; about half of those who suffer from Alzheimer's disease never receive the diagnosis. On another note, there are millions of unpaid caregivers! Many reside in Morehead & Rowan County. We hope we can count on you to register to participate in person or on your own, and help raise funds and awareness.
