Organiser's Description
The United Brachial Plexus Network invites you to join the 7th Annual UBPN Virtual Walk/Run Race for Awareness. The goal of this Walk/Run is to bring awareness to the public about life altering brachial plexus injuries while raising funds to support UBPN Camp. UBPN Camp is a multi-day informational gathering for people affected by brachial plexus injuries and their families. Through fundraisers like this, UBPN is able to have all of those with a brachial plexus injury attend camp without paying for room and board, meals, activities, and all of the roundtable discussions.
A brachial plexus injury is nerve damage to the network of nerves that control all movement and sensation to one or both arms. These injuries most commonly occur during the birthing process (affecting the infant's arm(s) however, the injury can occur following motor vehicle accidents, motorcycle accidents, or from injuries sustained during football or hockey games). These are just a couple of the ways that a person may incur a brachial plexus injury later in life.
Nerve damage currently has no cure which causes many brachial plexus injuries to be lifelong injuries causing pain, and limited use of affected arm or arms. These injuries are often times easy to overlook while still causing life altering pain both physically and mentally which is why your assistance with fundraising is vital to help get injured child and adults to Camp UBPN where the injured and their families will have the opportunity to connect with many people who are going through similar experiences. The Camp brings friendships alive and provides much needed information and support to members of the brachial plexus community.
October 20 - 26, 2024, is Brachial Plexus Injury Awareness Week. Please help spread awareness of these injuries by racing however you want, anytime throughout Awareness Week. Pick your distance and your race preference - Walk, Run, Bike, Swim. Register by September 20 to receive a tshirt, a race medal (first 45 participants), and a race bib!
Looking forward to "racing" with you!
