Get ready to lace up your running shoes for a fantastic cause at the United Way "Be a Hero" event on Saturday, March 1st, 2025, in the heart of Durant, Bryan. This annual celebration features a thrilling 5K race and a family-friendly 1-mile Fun Run, supporting the Bryan County United Way and its incredible partners, including the Red River Special Olympics. Participants will kick off the event at Evergreen in front of Opera House Coffee, with the 5K starting first, followed by the fun run.
This year's race promises to be an unforgettable experience, complete with chip-timing by First Place Timing and exciting awards for the top male and female finishers as well as the top three winners in each age division. Runners will enjoy a water stop along the 5K loop and have the chance to win the coveted Suman Cup in the Sponsors' Challenge. Don’t forget to channel your inner superhero—costumes are highly encouraged! Join us for a day filled with community spirit, fun, and the opportunity to support local heroes. Be sure to mark your calendar and prepare for an inspiring run!

Annual 5K and 1-mile Fun Run to benefit the Bryan County United Way and its agencies, including the Red River Special Olympics which was added as a main partner of the event in 2020 to highlight the Heroes that they are. The date of this year's event is Saturday, March 1st in downtown Durant. #beahero2025
This is a Choctaw PACE event; if you are a a member of the PACE Program, please register through PACE.
United Way will have packet pick-up options the day before the race (Friday, February 28th) as well as on race day morning. If you ever have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact the UW Director, Pam Robinson, at [email protected]
The race will take place beginning with the 5k followed by the 1-mile fun run; taking off from Evergreen in front of Opera House Coffee. There will be a water stop for the 5k within the loop at Southeastern. Awards for the Overall Male and Female 5k Winners, Top 3 winners (both male and female) within each age division, and The Suman Cup (Sponsors' Challenge), will be given out to winners of these categories and announced after race results. Ciara's Cup (Special Olympian - Heart of a Champion Award) will be given out at the annual Special Olympics track and field event held in April, along with a donation to Special Olympics from race proceeds.
