Organiser's Description
We want to welcome you to the 2nd Annual WAWA Adventure Crawl AKA WAC, where we will take you on a journey of a 50k ish distance and newly added 20 miler to 5 Wawa's in the Middleburg, Orange Park, and Argyle Forest area ( Jacksonville Florida area). This is NOT A RACE it is an adventure event where you run from one Wawa to the next and are required to purchase an item from each store as your way of "checking in" and to support these local businesses. We will also give a portion of the proceeds to a local non profit Animal Rescue/ Shelter TBD. We also are doing this in a team format, where you need to partner up with at least one other runner ( it can be 1 or more other runners but if you start together you have to finish together ), if you cant find a partner you can just team up with other runners at the race, so this way you can enjoy your journey together. This is strictly an Urban event and you MUST obey all traffic laws and can ONLY cross streets at intersections with a stop light or a stop sign. You are allowed a crew, however, they are only allowed to assist you at the Wawa's stores only ( we dont want to utilize random businesses or private properties out of respect to them ) We do have 1 exception to this "rule" and that is on the final leg of the adventure which is a 10 mile section where you are allowed to assist your runner at the Publix shopping center on Oakleaf Plantation Parkway and SR 23 ( toll road ) . The 20 mile event will start at the Best Bet poker room on US 17 and Wells road which is across the street from the Wawa located there. You can either park there in the back parking lot area where the grass is on River Road or at the Start / Finish of the 50k and we will carpool to the 20 mile start line. If you park at the poker room we will have some designated drivers to give you a return ride back to your vehicle. Also, if any of you want others to crew you along that way this is perfectly acceptable but you can not get in the vehicle for a " joy ride" unless you are a DNF.
While we are keeping this a low key event and a no thrills type of adventure, the RD Sombrero Dude just cant help himself and will give away some sort of "participant award" which most likely will be finisher medals of some sort and also will have some other Rule 62 type "award". As soon as he comes up with what he will come up with he will announce it on the FB group page: Sombrero Running Events
While we will have this as a timed event, we wont have any timing mats or high end timing equipment, this is an old school adventure with a Rule 62 component so you can participate in a fun event at a low cost and give back to a great local cause and support some local businesses. We also will have the route posted for you to download as a GPX file since we WILL NOT have many if any directional arrows along the route so you will need a fair amount of directional skills. You or your teammate will be required to carry a cell phone on you so in case of emergency or if for some reason you are not able to continue you will need to contact us. There will be a 12 hour cut off time to eliminate any night time running.
We also have an added requirement for this event to give back to our community partner and that is to bring some sort of dog/cat food or other items that might benefit the shelter animals and if you are so inclined we also have a donate button option if you wanted to give any additional funds ( not required ) for this wonderful organization. Thanks so much for your support and contributions for this fun journey!
There will be a 60 person capacity on this event because we want to keep it a small affair.
Our event beneficiary is the Friends of Jacksonville Animals [https://friendsofjaxanimals.com] non profit that is 100 percent volunteer led organization and a few of our Sombrero Running friends go and volunteer with organization on a weekly basis so we know its going for a very deserving and worthy cause! We are a very animal friendly and loving organization and is a way for us to give back to our loving animals.
