The 6-mile run features a unique "figure-8" course that leads runners to the magnificent Sunset Point trail spur, providing breathtaking views before a thrilling return. Hikers will enjoy a leisurely single-loop trail guided by local hiking experts, who will share fascinating insights about the areaโs ecology and history. CAMP IS IN SESSION!
Come explore the trails of Camp Wesley Woods located in Townsend beneath the foothills parkway. Race will start on Gravel service roads and will enter into the perimeter trail system consisting of double and some single track trail. Hilly terrain will be present! This event will feature a 6-mile race as well as a 3-mile hike option for those who do not want to not run but still support the camp by participating in an adventure! The 6-mile run course will be a "figure-8" fashion with turn around point located at the summit of the GLORIOUS Sunset point trail spur before returning to back and heading into the loop and then off to the finish. Water/ aid station will be available at the gravel road/ trail intersection along the main road of camp (mile 2 & mile 5).
HIKING AND HISTORY GUIDE
Hike will be a single loop without the spur extension. For Hikers interested in hiking the trail, you may choose to hike at your own pace, or, with two local trail hiking experts in the area; Charles Maynard, a master storyteller and smokey mountain historian, along with Brook Hartman, an avid hiker and cancer survivor. Both will lead hiking groups for those who wish to journey together at a leisurely pace and learn more in depth about the ecology of the trail along the way. Please indicate which option you would like during sign-up. Water/ aid station will be available at the gravel road/ trail intersection along the main road of camp (mile 2).
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Both events will begin at in front of the Nickel lodge building on the gravel road heading north east. Both events will follow the Gravel road before this merges into a narrower service road before bearing left onto Bob Hayes Trl- this trail will follow the properties perimeter (approx. 1.7mi) before returning to the main gravel road that bisects the camp. Hikers will take the gravel road back to the start to conclude their 3-mile hike. 6-mile runners will cross over the main gravel road of the camp to access the Rhododendron Trail near the Tipton Lodge building. In a few hundred yards the Rhododendron trail will become the Blueberry Trail. Runners will take the Blueberry Trail to top of the ridge before turning Right onto the Eastridge Trail. When the East Ridge Trail intersects with the Sunset Point Trail runners will continue Straight onto the Sunset Point Trail. In less than half a mile runners will turn Right again to stay on the Sunset Point Trail following this spur uphill to the Magnificent overlook before turning back down and returning with a Left onto Eastridge Trl. Eastridge Trl will end into the main gravel road near the Lagoon where runners will take a Right and follow the Gravel Road to the finish in front of Nickel Lodge where they started from.

AWARDS
Awards will be given to top 3 Male & top 3 Females in 6-mile race Event. Age Group winners will be awarded to top runner per 10 year increments (9 & under, 10-19, 40-49 etc).

Wesley Woods is a camp located in Townsend TN which is home to numerous camps throughout the year for various groups ranging from boy scouts, business retreats, recovery retreats, adult get-aways, as well as being a destination for church camps. During the Covid-19 Pandemic the camp remained shut down limiting its operational function. This event will kick start the 2024 year for a new and exciting year for the camp! Donations are welcome by selecting the "DONATE" option next to the registration option in the top Right corner. All proceeds for this event will directly benefit the Wesley Woods Camp.
