Join us for "A Walk to Remember our Fallen" on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at the picturesque grounds of the Pennsylvania Military Museum in Boalsburg, Centre. This heartfelt event honors the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Participants can engage in a meaningful 5K walk, completing six laps around the museum grounds, or simply enjoy the atmosphere by bringing a chair to share stories and memories of our heroes.

The day kicks off with a lively schedule, starting at 8:50 A.M. with performances by the Nittany Highland Pipe Band, followed by a special Color Guard ceremony and a moving keynote speech by Debra Burger, who will share her personal journey of loss and remembrance. Attendees can also partake in family-friendly activities, including writing "notes from home," creating memorial buttons, and enjoying delicious Duck Donuts, with 20% of the sales benefiting A Soldier's Hands. Come together as a community to honor our fallen and keep their memories alive!

Organiser's Description

A Soldiers Hands is a non-profit partner of Carry The Load (CTL). CTL provides active ways to honor and remember our nations heroes by connecting Americans to the importance of Memorial Day. Join us as we honor and acknowledge those who lost their lives while defending our country. Walk if able or bring a chair and listen. Together, let's share stories and say their names. Doing so keeps their memory alive. #Whoareyoucarrying.

9:05 A.M. Opening prayer by local pastor, Ashley McDonald; Nittany Knights sing the National Anthem

9:10 A.M. Welcome and acknowledge our Gold Star families and guests

9:15 A.M. Carry The Load representative, Riley Stapf, shares about the partnership between CTL and ASH and the mission of CTL

9:20 A.M. Keynote speaker: Debra Burger, will share her experience as a 5th grader when her oldest brother went missing in 1968. He was shot down in a reconnaissance mission flying what was called an O-2. Deb will also provide an update on their lifelong search for Lewis P Smith II remains.

9:35 A.M - 9:50 A.M. Nittany Knights Barbershop Chorus - beautifully sings patriotic songs

9:50 A.M. Walk of celebration begins; 6 laps around the museum grounds = 5K. Join for what you can.

9:50 A.M. Write a "note from home," sign our remembrance board, create a button, get a patriotic tattoo, enjoy a donut and a cup of coffee

9:50 A.M. Our bagpipers rejoin us

10:30 A.M. Taps performed by University of Delaware Sophomore, Hannah Majewski, followed by 21-gun salute: Bellefonte VFW

9:35-10:30 A.M. Veteran organizations on-site, ready to offer guidance
