Organiser's Description

BADWATER: Its a frame of mind, a global family of horizon-chasers, and a statement to the world about priorities and preconceived notions of what is possible. Badwater is a way of life! Are you ready to kick off the New Year with an authentic, original Badwater experience?

AdventureCORPS [https://www.adventurecorps.com/] the organizers of the iconic worldwide series of Badwater [https://www.badwater.com/] races are pleased to offer the BADWATER 267 VR in which competitors virtually and sequentially traverse the routes of all three Badwater races the 51-mile Badwater Cape Fear, the 81-mile Badwater Salton Sea, and the 135-mile Badwater 135 for a total of 267 miles, or 430km. These three events comprise the legendary Badwater Ultra Cup - and Badwater 267 VR! Start off the New Year with this new challenge and immerse yourself in the world of Badwater!

If you are up to the challenge, you will complete 267 miles (430km) during the month of January. You have 31 days to complete 267 miles on foot - or 133.5 miles swimming, 801 miles cycling - and you can do them anywhere you want, including indoors. There is also a multi-sport division for those who want to combine different sports (including paddle sports, cross-country and downhill skiing, skateboarding, and more; see below.) Participation is based on the honor system, but there is a highly recommended - and very popular - Private Strava Club to bring everyone together.

Go at your own pace, as often or as long as you want, wherever you live, anywhere on the planet!

Guidelines:

Running Division: You must complete all 267 miles on foot: This includes Walking, Hiking, Snowshoeing, and Treadmill, whether indoors or outdoors, covering 267 miles (430km) in 31 days. This is the Running Division, in which ONLY these bipedal activities may be counted. Also Note: In the Strava app, always log any of these activities as "Running" so that they appear on the club leaderboard.

NOTE: Elliptical is NOT allowed in the Running Division.

Cycling division: You must bike all the miles, whether outdoors, indoors, or both. (For logging and covering the 267-mile course, 3 miles cycling = 1 mile running. If you are cycling indoors, please make it realistic.)

NOTE: Indoor bike rides with an average speed of more than 16MPH / 25.75KPH DO NOT COUNT.

Multi-Sport division: MANY sports may be included, besides, cycling, swimming, and running: All paddle and rowing sports, ice-skating, rollerblading, skateboarding, and cross-country skiing are also allowed in the multi-sport category, and all they all count one-for-one.

For swimming, 1 mile swimming = 2 miles running. Similarly, for prone paddling - i.e. no paddle - this is considered equivalent to swimming and counts 2 miles for each 1 mile paddled.

For Elliptical, you must go 2 miles - with some intensity, NOT in the easiest setting - to log 1 mile in the RunSignUp system. (Elliptical is only allowed in the Multi-Sport division, NOT in the Running division.)

Strength training counts in the Multi-Sport division: 1 hour of strength training equates to 4 miles of running. Also, Yoga and other types of fitness classes count as 3 miles for a one-hour class.

Downhill skiing or snowboarding also count: 1150 feet of vert = one mile, thus 10,000 feet of vert equals the 8.67-mile daily requirement. (A total of 307,050 for 267 miles!)

Cycling: Indoor bike rides with an average speed of more than 16MPH / 25.75KPH DO NOT COUNT.

SWAG & AWARDS:

Participants will receive a BADWATER 267 VR tech shirt, BADWATER buff, and BADWATER sunglasses in a custom Badwater box. For those who log the necessary miles within the RunSignUp system, a BADWATER 267 VR Medal will also be awarded. (Medals are not sent just for participating; they are sent to those who cover the distance AND log all the necessary miles with the RunSignUp system.) These items will be shipped approximately 45 days after BADWATER 267 VR concludes. See the event webpage for all the info.
