The CambridgeWatertown Community 5K is a free local run and walk event designed to bring neighbors together and encourage healthy movement across our communities.
Participants are welcome to complete their 5K anytime during the event window and submit their time online.
A suggested starting point is near Watertown Square, with a scenic route following the Charles River path toward Cambridge. From there, runners can loop near Fresh Pond Reservation before returning toward Watertown.
This suggested route highlights the natural connection between Cambridge and Watertown, but participants are free to complete their 5K in any safe location that works best for them.

Participants may begin near Watertown Square (suggested start location) and follow the Charles River path toward Cambridge before looping back. You may also complete your 5K on any safe route in Cambridge, Watertown, or nearby towns. Many participants choose: Charles River Greenway Fresh Pond Reservation Residential neighborhoods in East Watertown Mount Auburn Street corridor West Cambridge side streets Complete your 5K anytime during the event window and submit your results online. This option is great for families, first-time runners, and anyone looking for a steady community challenge. -
Cambridge Community 10k

10K Option (6.2 Miles) The 10K option is designed for participants looking for a longer route and a deeper connection between the two towns. A suggested 10K route begins near Watertown Square, follows the Charles River path into Cambridge, loops around Fresh Pond, and continues along connecting paths before returning. Participants may also design their own 10K route anywhere in Cambridge, Watertown, Belmont, or surrounding Middlesex County communities. The 10K is ideal for experienced runners or those training for longer races.
