This race begins at 10:00 at Bay Point Park in Red Wing.

Racers can enter in a solo or tandem division for the triathlon with past racers using kayaks, canoes, and stand up paddleboards. Racers can enter in Duathlon as a Paddle-Bike or Paddle Run. Racers can also choose to do a paddle only race.

Race participants will park in the overflow parking lot across the road from Bay Point Park. Boaters will put in at the west boat launch and corral in the bay to the West of the park where a mass start will begin the race. A lead boat will guide racers out of the harbor and along the shores of Red Wing quickly merging onto the Mississippi River and heading downstream staying to the right of the red navigational buoys and stay along the shoreline to Colvill Park where they will loop around the back side of the park to the boat launch. Volunteers will be present to assist with getting out of boats and taking them to the transition zone for racers.

ALL BOATERS MUST WEAR A USCG-APPROVED LIFE JACKET DURING THE COMPETITION. Boats should not have any assisting devices such as sails, peddles, motors, etc. unless requesting accommodations for inclusive racing.

Boat rentals are available from the Red Wing Environmental Learning Center. Contact Jason at [email protected]

TRANSITION ZONE: For the convenience of racers' logistics, there is only one transition zone for this race at Colvill Park. [https://www.google.com/maps/search/covlill+park/@44.5661695,-92.5044477,266m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1] A guide of the transition zone will be available in the race packet. Racers will use the eastern-most parking lot next to the Community Pool. Each racer/team will have a designated parking space for their boat and bike. Racers will arrange to have their bike dropped off the morning of the race, before the start time. It is recommended that this is no later than 9:30. After the paddle portion, racers will have the option of volunteers moving their boats to their parking space. As bikers return from the bike portion, they will park their bike in the same lane they retrieved it from as they transition to the run. Times will be taken as racers enter and exit the transition zone and NO BIKING IS ALLOWED IN THE TRANSITION ZONE BETWEEN THE TIMING MATS.

Racers will enter the transition zone on the southwest corner of the parking lot and then enter their lane as a car would heading east to their designated space. In moving to the next leg of the race, racers will enter the sidewalk on the northeast corner of the parking lot before turning to the left and then a right onto the paved trail where the transition zone ends to then go around Colvill Park in a counter-clockwise direction. This allows for an equal distance of travel for all racers through the transition zone. Relay racers will exchange in their parking space.

Racers can choose to do the full triathlon, a Paddle-Bike Duathlon, a Bike-Run Duathlon, or a Bike only race. ALL RACERS ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR A BICYCLE HELMET. Triathletes will begin their bike immediately after they finish their paddle and come through the transition zone. Bike-run duathletes and bike only racers will begin with a mass start at Colvill at 10:45. The race will be timed using chips over pads so a flexible start after 10:45 is allowable as the racers time will be determined on when they cross each timing pad.

The bike races begin out of the north end of the transition zone. Racers will follow the trail counterclockwise around Colvill Park and exit heading West on Nymphara Lane before taking a left on East 7th Street. Bikers will then merge briefly onto Highway 61 with a nice wide shoulder.

MOUNTAIN BIKE RACERS will turn right onto Golf Links Drive. 3k into the race near the golf course clubhouse, Mountain Bike Racers will turn right onto the golf cart path and begin their 1.5k ascent up Memorial Bluff on a double-wide ski trail. At the top, bikers will bike through bluff top prairies with vistas of Red Wing before entering onto a series of single-track mountain bike trails with optional features that include ramps, jumps, berms, and more. Bikers will then return to a wider trail for their descent down the bluff on the grass trail with a 180 SWITCHBACK before merging on to Wilkinson Street. There is a pinch point between two boulders here to prevent motorized vehicles from accessing the trail. Bikers will then turn right on East 7th Street merging with the Road Bike route and then left on the eastern descent of Nymphara Lane before returning to Colvill Park and back into the transition zone.

ROAD BIKE RACERS will continue along Hwy 61 for 4k before turning right onto scenic Flower Valley Road. There is a railroad crossing at this intersection. In the event that racers are delayed due to a train, a volunteer will be at the intersection to mark the time the racer had to stop and was then able to resume their race. This information will be relayed to the timing coordinator for an adjusted time. Racers will then ascend Flower Valley Road for 7.5km before turning right down Hwy 58. Racers will then turn right through a traffic controlled intersection and onto West 7th St before returning to Colvill Park.

RUN SEGMENT: COURSE MAP (RED ROUTE) [https://earth.google.com/web/@44.56018101,-92.53476449,243.66389689a,7744.79816364d,30.00046565y,0h,0t,0r/data=MikKJwolCiExSFRKcWU1UEtrdUJLd2ZENzR6M21HdnVmQnZmNGE4MW8gAQ]

Triathletes and Duathletes will begin their run as soon as they enter the transition zone from their previous race segment.

Run only racers will start at 11:15 at Colvill Park.

The 6.4K run segment will have racers again depart the Colvill Park transition zone and head up Nymphara Lane and turn right on East 7th Street. They will race along the sidewalk on the north side of the street and through traffic-controlled intersections across town, through Central Park, and into the Historic Residential District. The route will head down a steep hill and before heading down a short flight of stairs to a tunnel under Hwy 61 and then cross Old West Main Street to take racers across the new pedestrian bridge over the railroad tracks and down to Bay Point Park where racers will do a loop around the park before the finish line.

4K UNTIMED WALK, RUN/WALK/WHEEL: COURSE MAP [https://earth.google.com/web/@44.56604525,-92.54313705,203.03426226a,1752.76441732d,30.00046565y,0h,0t,0r]

This part of the event will happen at the same time as the triathlon, starting at Bay Point at the same time as the paddlers begin. This will be a self-timed, out and back route, leaving from Bay Point, following the path that runs along the river, past the boat houses in the Red Wing Bay, down and around Levee Park, and then back. This part of the event is great for anyone who wants to participate in a more leisurely way and is meant to include all ages and abilities, such as families with young children, Special Olympics participants, and members of a group home. The entire route is paved and relatively flat to accommodate strollers and mobility devices. Children 5 and under are free.

Please note: The race is expected to happen rain or shine. There are NO REFUNDS after registration and payment have been completed.
