Join us for the exhilarating Fall Backyard Burn Trail Run at Laurel Hill on Sunday, October 4, 2026, located in the picturesque Lorton, Fairfax. This unique race invites participants to experience a stunning 5.4-mile or 10-mile trail course that winds through 1,600 acres of scenic terrain, featuring a blend of forested paths and open meadows. Starting and finishing under the historic guard towers at the Workhouse Arts Center, this event takes you through the beautiful landscape of the former Lorton Reformatory. The mostly non-technical singletrack is perfect for runners of all levels, with only a few short pavement sections at the beginning and end.
In addition to a fantastic running experience, participants will have the opportunity to support the local non-profit Homestretch during registration, helping to raise awareness and funds for families in our community. Organiser's Description
Located just south of the Capital Beltway in Lorton, this beautiful race course includes a mixture of forested and open meadow singletrack meandering through 1600 acres of the former prison grounds. The race starts and ends under the old guard towers at the Workhouse Arts Center, which is the site of the former Lorton Reformatory. The course is one of our least technical and most of it is on singletrack that is a mix of dirt and crushed stone. The only short pavement sections are at the beginning and end of the race. There are no extended climbs, but lots of short ups and downs.
