Organiser's Description

We are thrilled to announce the 5TH ANNUAL GUZIS HUNT FOR THE CURE RUN/WALK FOR HUNTINGTONS DISEASE, TAKING PLACE ON SUNDAY, MAY 18, 2025, at Oak Creeks Lake Vista Park. Thanks to the incredible support from our sponsors, participants, and generous donors, we have raised over $300,000 in the past four years for the Huntingtons Disease Society of America (HDSA) Wisconsin Chapter and Guzis Hunt For The Cure Foundation, Inc. This year, we aim to continue this momentum and achieve our fundraising goal of $75,000.

ABOUT CHRIS GUZIKOWSKI AND HUNTINGTONS DISEASE

In 2020, Chris Guzikowski, a lifelong resident of Oak Creek, 6th District Alderman, member of the Oak Creek Lions, and 2018 Oak Creek Citizen of the Year, received a life-altering diagnosis of Huntingtons Disease (HD). This rare genetic neurological disorder affects approximately 41,000 individuals in the U.S. and has no cure. HD manifests as ALS, Parkinsons, and Alzheimers, simultaneously, leading to cognitive decline, involuntary movements, irritability, balance issues, and ultimately, swallowing difficulties and death. The hereditary nature of HD means that Chriss three daughters also face a 50% chance of inheriting this devastating condition. In 2021, Chris and his family launched Guzis Hunt for the Cure 5K Run/Walk to raise awareness and funds for HD research and support, with the ultimate goal of eradicating Huntingtons disease.

A PERSONAL JOURNEY WITH HUNTINGTONS DISEASE

In 2023, as Chriss daughter Carley Renner and her husband Nate were preparing to start their family, they received the heartbreaking news that Carley also carries the Huntingtons gene. This not only means Carley faces the same fate as her father but also that any biological children they have would face a 50% chance of inheriting the gene. Fortunately, they received a grant for high-cost fertility assistance, allowing them to ensure their biological children would be HD-free. In 2024, they welcomed a healthy baby boy into their family! Inspired by this blessing, Carley and Nate established Guzis Hunt for the Cure Foundation, Inc., which provides financial support (grants) to couples impacted by Huntington's Disease through fundraising, donations, and sponsorships.

GUZIS HUNT FOR THE CURE FOUNDATION, INC.

The foundation is dedicated to raising awareness about Huntingtons Disease and the benefits of pre-implantation genetic testing with IVF. The first recipients are currently undergoing Preimplantation Genetic Testing - In Vitro Fertilization (PGT-IVF). We are excited to announce that we are advancing our mission by awarding a second grant to a deserving couple. The proceeds from this years fundraising efforts will support both Guzis Hunt for the Cure Foundation, Inc. and HDSA - WI Chapter.

We sincerely appreciate your consideration in supporting our mission to reach our 2025 fundraising goal of $75,000. We hope to see you at GUZIS HUNT FOR THE CURE 5K RUN/WALK FOR HUNTINGTONS DISEASE ON SUNDAY, MAY 18TH!
