Participants of all ages are invited to join in the festivities with a FREE 5K run/walk starting and ending at Zussman Park, conveniently located in front of Hamtramck City Hall. The event kicks off at 9:30 A.M. and runs until 12:00 P.M., making it the perfect opportunity to get active while exploring the streets of Hamtramck.
Led by the dedicated Hamtramck Fire Marshal Michael Young, the Hamtramck Health Hike promises a fun and friendly atmosphere for everyone, whether you choose to run, jog, or walk. Not only will this officially timed 5K allow participants to check their race results online, but the first 400 registrants will also receive exciting giveaways! Beyond the race, attendees can enjoy engaging activities at the park and learn more about maintaining a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. Join us for a day of fitness, community bonding, and positive vibes that you won't want to miss!

Join the Hamtramck Drug Free Community Coalition (HDFCC), a program of the Piast Institute, for its 17TH ANNUAL HAMTRAMCK HEALTH HIKE. It will be led by Hamtramck Fire Marshal Michael Young, a pillar community member that has been active with the Hamtramck Fire Department for many years!
This FREE 5K run/walk taking place on SATURDAY, MAY 16, 2026, FROM 9:30 A.M. TO 12:00 P.M. Starting and ending at Zussman Park in front of Hamtramck City Hall (3401 Evaline St.), this community event welcomes participants of all ages and fitness levels. However you choose to do the 5K (a run, jog, or walk), the Hamtramck Health Hike offers a fun, family-friendly way to get active and explore the city streets of Hamtramck.
The 5K will be officially timed, and participants will be able to look up their bib number online to see their race results and compare times within their age group.
Be a part of the first 400 people to register and attend to get free giveaways! Whether it rains or shines, participants will have the chance to learn more about healthy, drug-free lifestyles and partake in activities at the park afterwards.
HDFCC was founded by the Piast Institute in 2007 to address issues of substance abuse among Hamtramck youth. Its members have worked year-round with community leaders to help tackle substance abuse disorders of alcohol, tobacco, opioids and marijuana through prevention activities. Lara Girdwood is the Executive Director of HDFCC and Shannon Schafer is the HDFCC Director. This event is possible with donations, small grants, and volunteers! Contact us to see how you can help.
