Organiser's Description
_AT LIVING WELL WITH DEMENTIA IN SISTERS (LWWDS), WE EMPOWER THOSE WITH DEMENTIA AND THEIR CARE PARTNERS. WE ARE A LOCAL GROUP THAT PROVIDES A DIRECTORY OF LOCAL RESOURCES SPECIFIC TO SISTERS, OR RELATED TO ALZHEIMER'S AND OTHER FORMS OF DEMENTIA._
Our mission is to empower individuals affected by all forms of Dementia, as well as their care partners, through targeted resources and educational initiatives. We are committed to fostering a community that ages gracefully and lives well.
Our vision is to cultivate a community-wide emphasis on well-being, aiming to enhance the health and longevity of every resident in the Sisters Community.
ABOUT THE WALK AND SUMMER SOLSTICE RESOURCE FAIR
Science shows that walking is beneficial for brain health and potentially reduces dementia risk by improving brain connectivity, blood flow, hippocampal function, and reducing inflammation and stress. A study published in JAMA Neurology found that simply increasing the number of steps a person takes each day can decrease their dementia risk by as much as 50%.
On Saturday, June 21, 2025, we will be hosting our 2nd annual resource fair, which is free to attend by all in the community.
Before the resource fair opens, we'd like to invite the community to join us for a 1-mile walk to raise awareness about dementia, and funds to further support our mission of closing the resource gap that exists in Sisters.
