Powel 5K & Family Fun Day

Join us at Drexel's Vidas Athletic Complex, at 43rd & Powelton Ave., on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at 9:00AM for the 3RD ANNUAL POWEL 5K & FAMILY FUN DAY! There will be a 1 Mile Fun Run at 9:00AM, followed by a 5K at 9:30AM. There will also be a "Student Dash", food, and other family-friendly activities to follow the runs!



Please plan on arriving at Vidas by 8:30AM for registration and opening remarks. There will be a packet (t-shirt + bib) pickup option available prior to race day (details on date/time/location TBD). You may also pick up your packet at Vidas, but we strongly encourage taking advantage of the pre-race pickup option to mitigate the possibility of long lines the morning of the race.

ABOUT US:



Samuel Powel is one of West Philadelphia's premier public elementary schools located in Powelton Village, in the heart of University City. Our mission is to educate the WHOLE CHILD. We lay a foundation that prepares students for success; We take responsibility for the education of every child and maintain high expectations for ALL as we prepare them for scholarship, leadership and citizenship. Powel Elementary School is a place where ALL students feel safe, valued, accepted, respected, and supported to grow & reach their full potential.



Powel's Home & School Association is a Parent/Family organization that supports the education and engagement of Powel students by fostering relationships among the school, parents and teachers. Our objectives are:

* To provide a vehicle for communication and community building between parents and the administration and faculty.
* To enhance the educational experience by supporting academic and enrichment activities
* To improve the environment at our school by providing volunteer and financial support.



WHY WE'RE RUNNING:



Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, parents, students, teachers, staff and administrators have had very limited opportunities to engage with each other. Many of our historically successful fundraising activities have had to be modified or cut altogether for the sake of the health and safety of our school community. So we have decided to start a new Powel School tradition: The Powel 5K & Family Fun Day! Our GOAL is to fundraise in a healthy, safe and equitable way while showing our Powel Pride!



This year, all proceeds from the Powel 5K & Family Fun Day will go towards funding Powel's partnership with Playworks. To learn more about Playworks, please visit: https://www.playworks.org/
