Join us for the SSGT Javier Ortiz Memorial 5K Race/Walk on Saturday, June 14, 2025, in Rochester, Monroe. This uplifting event honors the memory of Staff Sergeant Javier Ortiz Rivera, a dedicated Marine who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. The day kicks off with registration at 8:00 AM at Longhouse Shelter in Seneca Park, followed by the 5K run/walk starting at 9:00 AM. Participants can also enjoy a fun-filled Children's Fun Run at 10:15 AM, and an awards ceremony at 10:30 AM, recognizing the top finishers with exciting prizes.
This USATF-sanctioned race features an accurately measured course, complete with a digital display clock at the finish line and post-race refreshments. The first 150 registered participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt, and all finishers will receive participation awards. Plus, enjoy free entrance to the PRFI Festival at Frontier Field on race day! All proceeds from this event will benefit the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), providing support to families of fallen heroes. Be part of this meaningful occasion and create lasting memories while honoring those who served.

BIO
Javier Ortiz Rivera was born in Cayey, PR on September 7, 1984. He moved to Rochester, NY at the age of 7 along with his family. Upon graduating high school he enrolled in the US Marine early entry program. In September of 2010 Javier was deployed on his 2nd tour to Afghanistan and 4th total in his 9 years as a Marine. He achieved a rank of Staff Sergeant and Platoon Leader. On November 16, 2010 Javier was killed by an IED roadside bomb while on foot patrol in an Afghanistan province. Javier represents all of the fallen soldiers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice defending our Freedom. Javier 26, was survived by his wife Veronica and three children, Alyssa, Andrew, and Anthony.
