Welcome!
The Virginia Running Clinic, presented by PWC Running Club, will focus on training and is recommended for motivated runners. All ages and abilities are welcome; the only requirement is the desire to improve. Participants will be instructed by coaches, health professionals, and top athletes on topics including motivation, nutrition, biomechanics (running form), weights and circuit training, goal setting, injury prevention, and sports psychology.
Participants will be divided by age and experience. We will learn by doing. The clinic lasts four days on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays for two weeks: May 25th (Sun), May 27th (Tuesday), May 29th (Thursday), and June 1st (Sun). Sessions run 90 minutes (5:45-7:15pm on Tuesday and Thursday, 2-3:30 pm on Sunday).
This clinic will be life-changing for your running.
Age five to senior citizens are welcomed and will be involved in very different camp experiences that is age and fitness appropriate.
Clinic Director: James DeMarco - Coach DeMarco has been named the Virginia Coach of the Year several times and has sent over 60 distance athletes to compete in college. Coach DeMarco has coached 24 state championship teams and coached youth athletes to adults. Coach DeMarco coaches at Patriot HS and also directs the High-Performance Distance Academy at Virginia Tech.
Head Coach: Paul Spangler - Coach Spangler has coach youth athletes to Olympians. Coach Spangler coached at Florida State, VMI, Florida, and Boston University. He is also the director of the Nike Smoky Mountain Running Camps in Asheville.
Doctor Mina DeMarco - Doctor DeMarco is a Sports Medicine and Family Physician with UVA Health. Dr. DeMarco will discuss nutrition and healthy lifestyle choices. Dr. DeMarco holds a marathon personal best of 2:57.
Assistant coaches will help direct our youth clinic participants in drills, workouts, proper running form and fun games. A focus on running form, speed and endurance work will the primary focus.
Location: Patriot High School, Bermuda field, by the tennis courts. Enter Patriot at their main entrance and drive straight and go all the way behind the school. Follow the XC Runs signs.
Bring: Have good shoes and bring a water bottle. A watch that records splits is helpful for adults.
