Get ready for an exhilarating day of racing at The Blazing 5k and Mile on Sunday, October 5th, 2025, in the beautiful city of Des Moines, Polk! This thrilling event, now in its 6th year, is not only the fastest 5K in the Midwest but also serves as the USATF Iowa Road 5K State Championship. Runners of all levels, from elite competitors to weekend warriors, are invited to conquer the flat and fast course that begins at Water Works Park. The scenic route provides ample space for spectators to cheer on their favorite runners as they dash through the main loop, culminating in a thrilling sprint down the long straightaway to the finish line.
With a total prize purse of $2,850 plus additional bonuses, including shoes for top finishers and special awards for breaking event records, there's even more reason to bring your A-game! Participants can also look forward to the Mile event, where they’ll have the chance to score prizes as well. EVENT DOUBLES AS THE USATF IOWA ROAD 5K STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

2025 marks the 6th annual Blazing 5k. The last 5 years have welcomed elites and runners of all types. The 5k course starts on the back loop in Water Works Park and shoots out the gun going clockwise on the flat and fast loop. At the end of the loop the racers are greeted by a prize for the first person to cross the mat. From there it's another flat and fast main loop going clockwise. This area offers plenty of space for spectators and the field can be seen for almost the entirety of this loop. It finishes on the screaming fast and long straightaway to the finish.
