XTERRA New Jersey is one of the Northeast’s premier off-road endurance events, set in the rugged beauty of Stokes State Forest in the Kittatinny Mountains. Featuring miles of flowing singletrack, scenic ridgelines, and dense hardwood forest, this event delivers a true XTERRA experience just 60 miles from New York City.

Athletes can choose from a full weekend of racing, including off-road triathlon, duathlon, mountain bike races, and trail runs. The triathlon features a swim in crystal-clear Robert Rooke Lake followed by challenging bike and run courses that wind through technical terrain and forested trails.

Distances range from beginner-friendly sprint options to longer, more demanding courses, making the event accessible to first-timers while still offering a serious test for experienced racers.

XTERRA New Jersey is part of the global XTERRA World Tour and serves as a qualifier for XTERRA World Championship events, attracting athletes from across the region and beyond.

Course Details

Set in the heart of Stokes State Forest, the XTERRA New Jersey course delivers a true off-road experience defined by flowing trails, punchy climbs, and scenic forest terrain.

Swim (Triathlon Only):
The race begins with a freshwater lake swim in the clear, calm waters of Robert Rooke Lake. Athletes complete a single-loop course with excellent sightlines and a beach start/finish, making it approachable for beginners while still exciting for experienced racers.

Mountain Bike:
The bike course features a ~6.5–7 mile loop of classic Northeast singletrack with approximately 500+ feet of elevation gain per lap. Riders can expect a mix of smooth, flowing sections, rooty and rocky technical features, short punchy climbs, and fast descents. The course rewards both bike handling skills and smart pacing, offering a fun but challenging ride for all levels.

Trail Run:
The run course winds through wooded trails and park paths with a mix of rolling terrain and short climbs. Expect a combination of singletrack and wider trail sections, allowing for both technical footing and opportunities to open up your stride. Scenic sections and a lively finish area keep energy high all the way to the line.
