Organiser's Description
As many of you already know Brittany's life was forever changed on January 4, 2022 when she was struck head on by a drunk driver. Brittany was transported by ambulance and then immediately life flighted to a trauma one hospital where she underwent life saving abdominal surgery. After abdominal surgery, the orthopedic team went to work on her legs. Dr. Norris and his team then placed metal rods, plates and screws inside both her legs. Britt had apart of her small intestine removed, her colon sutured and abdomen stapled shut. She broke both her femurs, fractured her left hip, her tailbone and her back, experienced a TBI and had many mini strokes and then was left in a coma for five days.
Many of you have been continuing to follow Britt's journey over the past almost three years. (Jan 2025) Britt has undergone a total of ten surgeries now. Her most recent surgeries have been in Oahu, with Dr. Hasegawa on both her left and right femurs where supportive plates were added and broken hardware was upgraded. Britt is still determined more than ever to run again.
Over the past three years Britt has turned her pain into purpose with a clear mission now. That mission is to boldly educate our community to promote cultural change and eliminate drinking and driving. To lean into the shared responsibility to educate our community about the many resources available to something that is 100% preventable. To share our raw and powerful personal story of the many miracles we've been able to witness along this healing journey.
WHY APRIL? WHY not do it in January right around her crash anniversary & piggy back with people starting New Year's Resolutions!? Two reasons; the first being April is Alcohol Awareness month and bringing awareness within the month allows Bold Like Britt to get organized to make this virtual run a HUGE success. Second-Britt needs time to heal as she would LOVE to physically be able to TRY to run in her own race.
Brittany is motivated more than ever to run again. To physically be able to stand, put weight through her legs and not only walk- BUT RUN!! She is working tirelessly in physical therapy, on her own, and with amazing friends to make this possible!
And now, she is humbly asking for you to join her once again. To stand up and help her bring awareness to the thing that changed her life and has impacted so many others. All proceeds will go directly towards supporting Bold Like Britt's mission across multiple states, billboards near her crash site and education specifically to our men & women in the military who may struggle with substance abuse.
