Organiser's Description
The Shenandoah Valley Runners (SVR) is excited to open registration for our Spring 10K training program targeting the 2025 Apple Blossom 10K [https://runsignup.com/Race/VA/Winchester/AppleBlossomValleyHealth10K] race on Saturday, May 3, 2025. This will be an 8-week program beginning on Monday, March 10, 2025. Weekly track workouts and group runs will occur in Winchester.
The training program runs rain or shine with few exceptions. The program is open to any healthy adult at virtually any level of athletic ability. There is no speed requirement and all paces are welcome. We recommended that trainees be running at least twice per week and able to complete a long run of at least 2.5 miles at the beginning of the training program. If you have not run a 10K before, we recommend that you consult your physician prior to entering this program.
You must be a member of SVR to participate in the 10K training program. If you are not currently a member, or need to renew an expired membership, you can complete the necessary steps here: SVR Membership Information [https://runsignup.com/MemberOrg/ShenandoahValleyRunners/Info]. The training program cost is $10. You must also select and register for a race on your own; we do not provide guaranteed or free entries.
The training program will include:
* 30-minute 1:1 consultation session with program coach
* Free, two-week preparatory program if you register by Sunday, February 23
* Experience-based daily training schedule
* Track workouts every Tuesday at 6:30p.m (exact location still TBD)
* Paced group run every Saturday morning at 8:00a.m.
* Members-only group chat for on-the-go advice, photo sharing, and community support.
* Weekly emails from the coach with training tips for injury prevention, shoe fitting and pronation testing, weather-appropriate gear advice, stride correction and agility, and nutrition and hydration management.
* Time trial of the Apple Blossom 10K route halfway through the training program.
* Paced shakeout on Friday, May 2, 2025 at 6:00a.m.
* Stretching and warm-up on race day.
Training program is limited to 25 participants.
Registration will close when program reaches participant capacity, or on Monday March 17, 2025 (one week after the program starts). Whichever comes first.
Training will be led by SVR member Elizabeth Morgan who brings 18 years of experience running and competing. Elizabeth has completed races of various distances including 5K, 10K, half-marathon, marathon, and ultramarathon. Elizabeth will soon complete her Level 1 coaching certificate through the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA).
Weather Policy: Safety is our number one priority. A race, training run, or other event may be canceled, delayed, suspended or postponed, or the course may be modified in the event of threatening weather conditions that could make the run unsafe for participants. Such threatening weather conditions may include: lightning, heavy rains, wind / tornadoes, extreme heat, ice / snow, or other major weather conditions. Extreme heat is defined as a heat index that meets or exceeds 105 ^0F at the time of the event or run. Lightning strikes within one mile of the planned course are considered threatening. It is up to the race director or run leader to determine whether the conditions are threatening and communicate any decision to alter the event or run to participants.
