We have multiple events for your whole family to participate in! The Wounded Hero 5k, SALUTE TO AFGHANISTAN VETERAN'S 1 mile Memorial Walk, The kid's “I RAN A MILE FOR A HERO” one-mile fun run. This year will be our second SALUTE TO HEROES CAR & MOTORCYCLE SHOW!! All proceeds raised from this event will go towards Operation Ward 57‘s Honor & Courage Program. Operation Ward 57's HONOR & COURAGE Program - www.operationward57.org.
There are two missions you can help us accomplish:
#1. With the help of your sponsorship, we are evolving to better assist the needs of our heroes suffering from the effects of Post Traumatic Stress. The Honor and Courage team is working towards a program that will allow us to send a Veteran or member of law enforcement to receive a procedure called the “Stellate Ganglion Block”.
What is a Stellate Ganglion Block? The stellate ganglion block (SGB) is a procedure in which an injection of a long-acting local anesthetic, using ultrasound or fluoroscopic guidance, is made in the right side of the neck around the main nerve that controls the “fight or flight” response (the sympathetic nervous system). This nerve, (the cervical sympathetic chain) which is a two way conduit, connects the parts of the brain that control the fight or flight response to the rest of the body. By blocking or “turning off” the traffic in the cervical sympathetic chain, it is believed that the parts of the brain that control the fight or flight response are allowed to completely reset, resulting in long-term relief of the associated anxiety symptoms. This procedure costs approximately $1000 and is not covered by insurance. The SGB takes less than 15 minutes to perform and the benefits are seen in as little as 30 minutes!
The amazing testimonies that we have heard from Veterans who have had the SGB procedure made us realize how important this is. We are losing 22 Veterans a day to suicide – this procedure is life-changing for those with Post Traumatic Stress and it is our mission to do whatever we can to help turn that number “22” to “ZERO”. With your help – we can put more effort towards this mission.
#2. It has been brought to our attention that there is a high percentage of Veterans that are inpatients in the cancer ward at Walter Reed Military Medical Center. The ages of these Veterans range from both young and old. The reasons for these cancers can be attributed to Agent Orange that our Vietnam Veterans were exposed to during the Vietnam War. For the younger Veterans – exposure to burn pits during the Iraq/Afghanistan wars sadly has caused cancer for many who served during the War on Terror. Your sponsorship will allow us to provide comfort and moral items for patients and their caregivers during very difficult times. A little bit of comfort and happiness goes a long way
Thank you for your time and consideration in sponsoring the Honor and Courage ~ Wounded Hero 5K & Salute to Heroes Car Show. Your generosity can help improve the lives of our Heroes.
We hope to see you on September 30th at Warminster Community Park!
