Join us for the 29th Annual Run for the Animals 5K & Barktoberfest on Sunday, October 6th, 2024, at Karst Farm Park in Bloomington, Monroe! This exciting event features a timed 5K run/walk that supports the Monroe County Humane Association's vital programs and services. This year, the 5K course has been revamped to include a loop through the Monroe County Fairgrounds, enhancing safety for runners and their furry companions. Whether you're a competitive runner or walking with your pet, there's something for everyone!
Barktoberfest is a community celebration that's completely free to attend, featuring local vendors, delicious food trucks, and a variety of fun games and activities for families and their four-legged friends. With awards for top runners in various age categories and a special canine award, there’s plenty of motivation to participate! Plus, enjoy the festivities after the race, including a pet costume contest and a chance to win prizes in a raffle. RUN FOR THE ANIMALS is a timed 5K run/walk and event at Karst Farm Park, with all of the proceeds benefiting the programs and services of the Monroe County Humane Association. New in 2024, the 5K is no longer an out & back run. We've added a loop through Monroe County Fairgrounds to cut down on runners and walkers with pets encountering each other. BARKTOBERFEST is 100% free for members of our community to attend, and includes local vendors, food trucks, and tons of other fun games and activities for both families and furry friends!
This event is so important to the Monroe County Humane Association and our ability to provide so many programs and services that would otherwise not exist in our community. MCHA advocates for a more humane future for the pets in our community by being a provider of accessible veterinary care through our Nonprofit Veterinary Clinic, offering a free Pet Food & Supply Pantry, humane education, and Therapy Animal Program - many lives, human and animal alike, are touched by the work of MCHA. All this and much more is only possible because of the generous support of our community! MCHA is a private 501c3 non-profit that receives no funding from national organizations or tax dollars.

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR DOG PARTICIPANTS: As required by the state of Indiana, all dogs must be up to date on the rabies vaccination. All dogs must remain on a leash at all times during the event. For safety reasons, retractable leashes are not permittedonly standard, non-retractable leashes are allowed. Thank you for helping us ensure a safe and fun event for everyone!
Preregistered runner packets will be available for pick up at the event entrance.

As a virtual participant, you'll be entered into a surprise drawing that will take place on Friday, November 1. We'll share more details by email during the last week of October! Your event packet and official run t-shirt will be available for pick up at MCHA's clinic (791 S Fieldstone Blvd, Bloomington, IN 47403) during regular business hours beginning on Monday, October 7. Instructions for managing your registration and uploading your results will be included in your confirmation email.
