ACU…. it’s says run walk crawl Test yourself. Well it certainly did that ! Let me just say anyone considering doing this I’m no ultra runner , I’ve done a few marathons my wife 3 to 4 5 k’s ! We decided to do the 40miler as we’ve been together 40 yrs , walk most of it maybe a bit of jogging. Little did we know it was gonna be in middle of Storm Amy . The original course was halved the night before due to weather conditions to instead be a straight out and back to condense the participants into a smaller area to monitor . On a good day parts of the course are very challenging like it says but on a bad day treacherous. The missus got blew onto a barbed wire fence lacerated her arm approaching one particular gorge , all part of the type 2 fun . Checkpoints are evenly spread out and have everything you need , but be prepared for them to move locations slightly if weather dictates. We followed the kit list to the letter but I did feel we were overpacked compared to others our rucks were whey bigger that most which was a handicap at times . During the event that latter part of the course towards the turnaround point was deemed too dangerous to continue on but somehow we managed to slip by and miss the instruction to turnaround early , it was almost like an escape and evasion exercise as we managed to somehow again avoid some lovely organisers that had been sent out to retrieve us we somehow crossed paths the other side of some shrubbery eventually they caught us up at the turnaround 🤣 We we give the option to return to an earlier point to continue and eventually finish. All in all a fancy experience in a awesome backdrop of the Atlantic coast . We’ve been going to Cornwall for over 50 yrs it really opened our eyes to other spots . The event is very well organised and monitored but it’s not to be taken lightly . Run Walk Crawl …yeah been there done it all of the above got the tea shirt 10/10 😎👍💪

Big shout out to the organisers who re routed this event in the morning so it go ahead despite Storm Amy. It was a challenging course but I felt safe (despite getting lost in the dunes). The guys at the checkpoints were welcoming and encouraging. I was very glad of the jam sandwiches. The other runners out on course were also friendly making it a great day.
