Blair Castle has been the home of the Atholl family for over seven centuries. The castle has had a diverse history, witnessing both turbulent and peaceful times, enlarged and adapted over 750 years to suit the needs of the family and style of the day. Home to politicians, soldiers, agriculturalists and entrepreneurs, the family history is brought to life against a backdrop of fine 18th century interiors and Scottish baronial architecture.

It is our event HQ for a fine weekend of Trail Running!

Diana's Grove - 7km

Elevation - 100m

This 7km race is the perfect introduction to the world of trail running.

A rolling route, without too much eleveation or technical challenges, but just enough to keep you on your toes.

Take part on one of our post-race Yoga sessions to aid your recovery and enjoy a cold pint or two.

Banvie Burn - 13km (ish)

Elevation - 200m

Like the 7km, the Banvie Burn 13km route is also a great introduction to the world of Trail Running.

Instead of returing back to the event village, runners will fork off through the Blairuachdair woods and follow the path into the fringes of Glen Tilt - just enough to get a flavour of its raw, remote beauty.

After entering the Glen, the route returns back toward the finish - shadowing the the river Tilt before entering the event village and finishing area.

Make the most of the weekend and take part in one of our lead Yoga session to loosen the legs off + enjoy a cold beer or two.

Dearg Up n' Doon - 30km

Elevation - 1000m

The Dearg Up n' Doon takes quite a step up from the 2 shorter race options.

Reaching heights of 1009m at the summit of Ben Dearg - one of the highest points in a wedge of high, exposed countryside that is situated between Glen Tilt to the east and the Pass of Drumochter to the west. Runners will experience extensive views across the Cairngorm Mountains and the remote beauty of the Alt Schiecheachan Bothy.

Following the exposed trail back down the mountainside, the route eventually rejoins the vast forests of Blairduachdar before snaking it's way through the dense pine, larch and birch woods and back to to the finish.

A great steppping stone for runners looking to dip their toe into higher altitude world of trail running.

Runners will be treated to multiple professionally stocked feed stations along the way to keep you fuelled for the challenges that lie ahead.

At the finish, enjoy the event village where there will be cold beer and complementory lead Yoga sessions to help aid post run recovery.

However, we must add that it is only possible to do one race on each of the days due to the timing of the events.

Volunteers

We're just a small team at Outsider Events and are always looking for volunteers. If you are just spectating and want to get involved, please get in touch with us!

As an incentive, for the Blair Castle Trail Weekender we are offering Volunteers the option of doing a days marshalling one day and on the other you can choose a race of your choice for free + one of our official event T-shirts.

We have a range of roles for our Volunteers, this can be anything from marshalling at a turn-off, helping out at one of our feed stations or even helping hand out numbers at signing-on. Does this sound like something you'd like get on-board with?

Great event and very much a challenge. Plenty of extra surprises with the route and hills. I would recommend it. Poor that they ran out of water at 2nd food station and no water at the finish. Especially in the 23 degree heat.
