Organiser's Description

Arguably the finest castle in the series, Lough Cutra provides a fitting backdrop for the curtain raiser of the Castle Triathlon Series, within the beautiful Castle grounds and the surrounding area of stunning South Galway.

The races all kick off with an open-water swim in the lake. The bike routes circumnavigate Lough Cutra itself, with the half Iron distance 'Gauntlet' cycle also taking in the beautiful Burren National Park. A mixed terrain run out into the surrounding area of South Galway to finish.

Individual triathlon distance events from children's races to the middle distance Gauntlet, triathlon relay events from children's races to the Gauntlet, aquabike, aquathlon and duathlon events at sprint and standard distances, also run and swim only events. Races on Saturday & Sunday, 29/30 May.

In light of the recent government announcement (Monday 22 Feb), we are very encouraged to see a return to organised outdoor sport from March 29. All our 2021 events will fall in line with National Governing Body guidance and we are therefore very confident that we will be able to deliver a safe and successful season of mass participation events. We look forward to kicking off our season with the Cholmondeley Castle Triathlon and Multi-Sport Festival on June 19th/20th.

We organised a hugely successful socially distanced event at Hever Castle in September 2020 for over 4000 participants and their supporters. This has given us, the Industry but most importantly our participants, the confidence to return to racing in 202!.

We want to reassure all participants that we’ll continue to work closely with Government, governing bodies, venues and suppliers to ensure that our 2021 events are run in accordance with current health and safety guidance.

Our increased health and safety measures cover 5 key principles of education: touch point reduction, density reduction, athlete self-reliance and enhanced hygiene.

Should we be required to put on a socially distanced event, participants will still get the full race experience but with individual rolling starts, 1 competitor every 10 seconds (sometimes greater), restricted time on site either side of your race and possible limit on spectators per athlete only.

We will prepare venue specific documents to send to all participants ahead of the event. These will include details on how to prepare pre-event, arrival timings and movements, swim, cycle, run, festival village and exit.
