Get ready for an unforgettable weekend at the Lough Cutra Castle Triathlon and Multisport event, taking place from Saturday, May 23, to Sunday, May 24, 2026, in the picturesque Gaillimh, County Galway. Organized by the renowned Castle Race Series, this exciting event welcomes participants of all ages and skill levels, offering a variety of race distances in Triathlon, Duathlon, Aquabike, Aquathlon, Run, and Swim. Whether you're a first-time competitor or a seasoned athlete, there's something for everyone, including the option to compete solo or as part of a team in friendly relay races.

Set against the stunning backdrop of the Lough Cutra Castle grounds and the breathtaking landscapes of South Galway, this event promises not only competitive racing but also a vibrant festival atmosphere. Participants will enjoy a unique open water swim in the shimmering 1,000-acre freshwater lake, followed by scenic bike routes that meander around Lough Cutra and through the breathtaking Burren National Park. Runners will take on a mixed terrain course that showcases the natural beauty of the area. Organiser's Description

Whether you’re 9 or 90 years old, a first-timer or seasoned athlete, choose from a plethora of distances in Triathlon, Duathlon, Aquabike, Aquathlon, Run and Swim races. Sign up as an individual or with a team of friends in one of our relays!

Arguably the most fun event in the series, Lough Cutra provides a fitting backdrop for the curtain raiser of the Castle Race Series, set within the beautiful Castle grounds and the surrounding area of stunning South Galway.

The iridescent 1,000 acre stunning freshwater lake provides a unique opportunity for this open water swim. The bike routes circumnavigate Lough Cutra itself, with the half Iron distance 'Gauntlet' cycle also taking in the beautiful Burren National Park. A mixed terrain run out into the surrounding area of South Galway to finish.

Throughout the weekend, athletes and spectators will be able to enjoy a fun-packed festival village featuring live music, shopping, food and drink, children’s entertainment, yoga and more.

How to Get There

We have partnered with Stena Line and Irish Ferries to make planning your trip to Lough Cutra as easy as possible. Check your competitor confirmation emails for fantastic discounts for your ferry crossings!

Parking

Follow the yellow event car parking signs as you approach the venue to ensure you are taken to the correct location. Car parks are free and in fields adjoining the race village so just a few minutes' walk to the venue!

Governing body

This will be a Triathlon Ireland permitted event. Competitors taking part in a triathlon / multisport event are required to produce either valid membership or purchase a Triathlon Ireland Day Licence.

Medals, Prizes & photos

All participants receive a medal, we present trophies to 1st place winners, prizes to 2nd and 3rd, and prize pots for podium places of the Olympic and Gauntlet triathlons
