Midwinter Mortimer Trail

The route takes you through the Marches of England, with extensive forests, limestone tops and gentle pastures in an area dominated in mediaeval times by the Mortimer family, one of the most powerful Norman earldoms. Expect hills, mud and possibly snow!

Starting at Ludlow Castle or the Riverside Inn at Aymestrey, this self-nav, no-frills event is ideal for newcomers to ultra running. Two weeks before the race, athletes will receive a comprehensive Athlete Guide, packed with helpful advice and information to prepare you for race day. Aid stations will be full of Christmas goodies, so whether you are looking to burn off the Christmas excess or enjoy a more leisurely pace, the Midwinter Mortimer Trail is the post-Christmas event not to be missed.

We recommend parking your car early in the morning in Kington and making your way back to Ludlow or Aymestrey for the start of your race. There is both paid and free parking at Kington in the High Street Car Park, Crabtree Rd, Kington, Herefordshire HR5 3UE. Minibus transport which can be booked for £14 per person when you sign up for the race will also take athletes from this car park to Ludlow or Aymestrey for registration and the start of your respective race. There is paid 'all day' parking in Ludlow in the Linney SY8 1EE, but no parking at the Riverside Inn, Aymestrey. Further details on car parking and transport will be shown in the Athlete’s Guide that is posted to each athlete two weeks prior to race day.

For those athletes doing the MMT(W) Ultra distance there will be the opportunity to buy coffee and cake for £5 at Chapter66 café and use the toilet facilities as you register and get ready for the start.

For both the MMT(W) Croft 15 athletes starting at, and the MMT(W) Ultra athletes checking in at, the Riverside Inn checkpoint there will be plenty of water and snacks as well as toilet facilities.
