The Midwinter Mortimer Trail, the sister event to the Midsummer Mortimer Trail consists of two distances of mixed trail/forest/road runs along the beautiful Mortimer Trail, between the historic market towns of Ludlow, Shropshire and Kington, Herefordshire.
Starting at Ludlow Castle, the MMT(W) Ultra is a mere 30ish mile multi terrain run. The route takes you through the Marches of England, with extensive forests, limestone tops and gentle pastures in an area dominated in mediaeval times by the Mortimer family, one of the most powerful Norman earldoms.
The MMT(W) Croft15 follows the last half of the Ultra route, starting at the lovely Riverside Inn, Aymestrey.
Wild Shropshire Ultra Series
This year we are collaborating with two other race event companies to launch an exciting new series of three increasingly long-distance running and walking challenges across the Shropshire Hills National Landscape. Andali Events, Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre and Runningmonk Trail Events have teamed up to create the event, known as the Wild Shropshire Ultra Series.
Not for the faint-hearted, The Series kicks off with our 30-mile Ultra as part of the Midwinter Mortimer Trail event. Then its on to the Shropshire Way 80K, a 50-miler hosted by the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre which takes place on April 18th. The Series’ finale will take place on July 25th when Runningmonk bring you the Rollin’ 100, a 100 mile race event.
Any runner or walker who signs up and completes all three events will receive a unique medal, and there’s a special prize for the person that completes in the fastest combined time. Anyone wanting to take part needs to sign up to the Midwinter Mortimer Trail Race, indicating via a tick box that they are interested in doing the Series and that’s it- there’s no additional charges to take part.
