The Mumbles Duathlon is set in a spectator friendly location near Swansea Bay, showcasing the beauty of Mumbles throughout the route. Athletes can choose to participate in Middle or Sprint distances. The Sprint distances are open to a younger age category of 14+, providing a great experience for younger athletes to take part in. The roads throughout the Bike route offer participants a great opportunity to pick up speed, while enjoying the scenery of the Gower.

Course Details

The Mumbles Duathlon is set in a spectator friendly location near Swansea Bay, showcasing the beauty of Mumbles throughout the route. Athletes can choose to participate in Middle or Sprint distances. The Sprint distances are open to a younger age category of 14+, providing a great experience for younger athletes to take part in. The roads throughout the Bike route offer participants a great opportunity to pick up speed, while enjoying the scenery of the Gower.

What's Included

Registration to take place between 15:00 and 19:00pm on Friday 24th March. We will be hosting a Beginners Briefing at 17:30 for any first timers that have any queries. Athletes will be provided with a swim cap which they are required to wear and finishers will receive a medal. Full comprehensive Health and Safety on site and along course, in addition to feed stations.

How to Get There

DIRECTIONS FROM THE M4
Leave M4 at Junction 42 – the deceleration lane bends to the left sharply, so be careful!
Join the A483 and follow it into Swansea; watch your speed (cameras).
Immediately after crossing the river, turn left. You can join either lane.
Follow the coast road all the way around the bay into Mumbles village.
Drive through the village.
Drive past a mini children’s park on the left.
Drive past The Pilot Pub on the right.
Take the next left into Knab Rock car park.
If you go up a steep hill with the pier down to the left, you’ve just missed us!

FAQs

  • When do I get my race number and timing chip?

    When do I get my race number and timing chip? These must be collected at the time of registration upon showing photo ID.

  • Will there be any Road Closures for the Event?

    There will be on closure on Lunnon hill during the event but this will not affect your travel to the event.

  • Toilet facilities

    There are public toilets at the start/finish line or at the Mumbles Yacht Club.

  • Where to eat

    Mumbles Yacht Club will be in attendance at the event selling bacon rolls, burgers, teas and coffees throughout the day. Verdi’s will also be open from 10am.

Can I use Tri Bars (aerobars)?
- Yes Tri Bars are allowed.

Do I need a specific type of bike?
- You can use any bike that is roadworthy, however you MUST not use electric bikes or tandems.

Do I need a specific helmet?
- Your helmet MUST meet the British Triathlon specifications and have the ‘CE’, ‘SNELL, or ‘ANSI’ trademark inside it. The helmet must not have any cracks in it and the strap must be in good working order.

Where do I wear my timing chip?
- You must wear your timing chip on your left ankle.

Where do I have to apply the bike and helmet stickers?
- You must apply one sticker on your bike seat post and one on the front of your helmet.

Will my bike be safe in transition?
- All racking will be done the day of the event. Your bike will be safe in transition. You must show the security staff your bike with sticker, helmet with sticker and matching race number before entering or leaving with a bike.

Will there be drink/feed stations on route?
- There are no drink or feed stations on the course for the sprint distance, but you are welcome to bring your own bottles and nutrition.
- For the Middle distance there will be one on bike course and one on run course, which you will pass multiple times.

Is drafting permitted during the race?
- No - drafting is not permitted.

Can I wear headphones?
- No, we discourage anyone wearing headphones during the race.

Is there a cut off?
- Yes, there is an overall cut-off. Please head to the itinerary page for this information.

Will there be drink/feed stations on route?
- There are no drink or feed stations on the course for the sprint distance, but you are welcome to bring your own bottles and nutrition.
- For the Middle distance there will be one on bike course and one on run course, which you will pass multiple times.

Is the run mainly on roads or is it multi-terrain?
- The Route is down the mumbles mile so is all tarmaced pavement

We want to ensure the Mumbles Duathlon is an amazing day for all athletes! We also want to make sure that everyone competing knows exactly what’s happening, when it’s happening, and most importantly what you need to keep safe and have a great time!

Please note Race Packs go live up to 2 weeks prior to the event.

In order to take part in the event you MUST bring Photo ID to registration.
