Organiser's Description

Welcome to the Salcombe Sprint Triathlon…one of the first triathlons to take place from this iconic seaside town.

This epic event in the wonderful town of Salcombe will put your endurance to the test as you swim, cycle and run through local villages of Salcombe, Hope and Galmpton. Starting from North Sands for a 700m swim in the bay, competitors will then head out on the 19km bike course which has numerous undulations through some stunning South Hams countryside.

Be ready for of the steep sharp inclines and the rolling down hills towards to the sea. Once you're past Inner and Outer Hope there is a steep assault on the hill upto Malboroiugh and a nice finish along the escarpoment from Marlborough to North Sands.

The 3km run aspect is a trail type route into the valley behind north sands with a gentle ascent to Lower Collaton, and back down a winding track back to North Sands.

As with all our events our focus is on challenging yourself whilst still having fun in a social and welcoming environment ... and our Triathlon is no different. Whether this is your first try at a TRI, or you are a seasoned professional we welcome all levels, abilities and ages.

It was a lovely race, great staff, lovely swim and run. Cycle would have been great but unfortunately sign posting wasn’t clear, lack of Marshall’s out on the road and no roads closed off meant I ended up accidentally cutting off some of the course (as did a few people I later found out). Such a shame as it was an amazing event, apart from that - meant I didn’t get an official time. Hopefully clearer next year.

This was my first triathlon and I massively underestimated how hard it would be. The cycle absolutely destroyed me - the hills were not forgiving and I lost a huge amount of time on the bike due to being overly cautions after the rain and having to walk a lot of the hills. The run was a true cross country/trail run and super unstable which on already weak legs was a real challenge. The swim was great and I have to say it was well organised and had a good vibe despite the rain. The lady at the finish line was a bit awkward and I had to ask her for a medal which at the end of the race is a bit disheartening. I wouldn’t recommend it for someone’s first triathlon due to how tough it was but maybe that’s just me!
Hi Jessica, Thank you for your feedback. As a result of Salcombe as a location for a Triathlon its can not be an easy one to take part in. In our descritption is does describe the event as challenging and hilly a provide you with all the ascent gradients. Please don't be put off doing other triathlons but it would be advisable to check the tough nature of an event before entering. We always respond promptly to all emails. Thank you for entering I hope you keep enjoying triathlons. LGV

The event had a nice chilled and friendly atmosphere and was really well organised. The swim was gorgeous, really clear water and calm. The cycle was really really difficult, very hilly and steep gradients but picturesque. The roads were a bit dangerous though, wet and lots of gravel and not great sight lines. The run was hilly too and uneven underfoot but proper 'cross country'Everything ran really smoothly with good safety in the water, lots of signposts and volunteers giving guidance.
