Snowdonia Gravel Epic

Llanrwst: 80km, 2,000m or 50km, 1,400m

The route starts in beautiful Llanrwst and after a short 4km flat section to get the legs warmed up, we hit a 4.5km off road climb and head into the heart of the Gwydyr Forest and hit smooth gravel that we stay on for most of the ride. This climbs takes us between two lakes with some great views.

Heading south, the short route splits off after 23km and one more off road climb and the long route adds the first extra loop with a big 4km climb. As the routes rejoin, we ride through forest tracks following the river east before the long route heads out again for a gnarly 23km loop including a long 6km climb.

The last 20km includes two last climbs and a quick descent back to base. We rode on a gravel bike with 40mm all rounder tyres and found the gravel about as good as it gets in the UK. There is lovely variety on the route from dark forest tracks, gravel roads past lakes and some sweeping mountainous sections. We ride all over the country and this is one of the absolute highlights.

Terrain & Bike Choice: The route is 15% backroads and 85% gravel trails om some of the best gravel in the UK. We would recommend a gravel bike with 40mm all rounder tyres, a mountain bike will also be fine but not as quick. The route is packed with challenging climbs so light gearing is advised (compact with a large cassette as a minimum). We will update nearer the ride on course conditions.

We have feed stops approx every 30kms with fruit, cakes, coke, water, hydration tabs & tasty ride nutrition.

RACE VILLAGE AT THE FINISH
After an epic ride, grab a pint, coffee or cake at the end. Free parking for the day, toilets & bike wash also included in your entry.

New to gravel riding? Hire a gravel bike for the day. We also have mechanics on site to support with any issues before & during the ride.
