South Downs Way Ultra Run - 30 Miles

A group of eleven smiling people, dressed in outdoor athletic gear, pose around a concrete marker on a grassy hilltop. Some give thumbs up, and the sky is partly cloudy. The group appears enthusiastic and happy, suggesting a successful hike or run. A group of people jogging on a grassy trail in a hilly landscape under a cloudy sky. They are wearing athletic gear and backpacks, moving towards a distant hill. The scene is expansive and lush with a sense of dynamic movement. A gravel path stretches through a green field under a bright sun and a partly cloudy sky. Two people and a dog walk away from the camera. The landscape is open with hills in the distance. Three people run on a muddy path in a wooded area. The person in front is splashing through a puddle, with water spraying around. Bare trees line the path under an overcast sky, creating a dynamic scene of outdoor activity.

Organiser's Description

Starting and finishing on the beautiful Harting Down, this run features some of the best parts of the South Downs Way and surrounding areas, including Beacon Hill, Cocking Down and Kingley Vale.

You will be guided by myself, an experienced ultra runner, running coach and Salomon athlete. This run may be hilly, but is still perfect as your first taste of ultra running, the route is taken care of and you will get the chance to learn from an experienced ultra runner, and get any running questions you may have answered.

We will explore the trails of the South Downs Way before heading towards the south coast through ancient woodland, small villages and nature reserves. We'll visit Kingley Vale, Kingley Vale is known for its twisted and ancient yews and includes a grove of veteran trees which are among the oldest living things in Britain. The run will also see us pick up the Sussex border path and small sections of the Shipwrights Way and the Staunton Way.

We finish where we started on Harting Down, where we will say our goodbyes.

Pace: This is not a race! We will run as a group and share this experience together. I advise that you have run at least 22 miles in training before trying this event. You should be able to comfortably run an average pace of 10 min/miles | 6 min/km for prolonged periods of time on the trail, and have a suitable level of fitness. Ultra running first timers encouraged!
