The Big Brutal Swim

Organiser's Description
The Big Brutal Swim will take place at the beautiful Parc Padarn, the sixth deepest lake in Wales and home to a fish called the Arctic Char, a species left over from the time of the last Ice Age – although none of our swimmers have spotted one yet! Choice of 2.5k, 5k, and 10k swims. All profits will go to Aspire, which supports people with spinal injuries. Separate categories for wetsuit and skins swimmers.

What a brilliant day and fantastic challenge!! I am a new swimmer and completed the 5K challenge in 2 hours and 1 minute. I chose this event to raise money for the charity MIND. The event was well organised and the staff were really friendly and helpful. A few strokes in I had to give my swim gloves and socks to one of the Kayaking team as the temperature of the lake was so warm I did not need to wear these!! I wish now I had gone for the non wetsuit option! I did my first two laps and I was feeling quite tired but with all the staff and spectators cheering you on it really made you want to keep going!!! The views were amazing while I was swimming! The feeling when I had completed was amazing and I got quite emotional! I will be back to do the 10K next year!! Thanks again to Big Brutal Events for a great day!
