The Castle Swim Series - Castle Howard

Organiser's Description

The swim only event provides the choice of three different distances: 5km 2.5km and 1mile and boasts a unique and stunning swim route in all the stunning castle lakes.

The swims described by many triathletes as the ‘best open water swims ever completed’ will now be open to outdoor swimmers as an event in its own right.

All swimmers will be provided with timing chips and the races categorised into wetsuits and non-wetsuits. Prizes will be awarded for the first place male and female competitors in each distance.

How To Get There

Castle Howard is located just 15 miles north east of York, just off the A64 in the direction of Malton and Scarborough. From the North: From the A1 take the A61 to Thirsk then the A170 to Helmsley. Before Helmsley turn right onto the B1257 and follow the brown signs. From the South: Take the A1M to Junction 45 and follow the A64 east to York. Camping

The Castle Triathlon Series is offering camping at all UK and Irish castles (but we don’t supply the tent). If you are a camper with a tent or have a Campervan or Caravan take this fantastic opportunity to stay within the spectacular grounds of the Castle at which you are competing.

There will be toilet and showering facilities available at all sites. There will also be an electric hook-up at Castle Howard and Hever Castle which can be added to your booking on the online shop. There is no human waste disposal for caravans or camper vans on any of the Castle camping sites.

Prices for camping at the Castles are as follows:

Tent (2 people) – £25

Extra Person – £8.00 per night

No charge for under 5’s

Camping is located in the Castle Howard Lakeside Holiday Park, approximately 15 miles north east of York, just off the A64. Post Code for sat nav YO60 7DD. From the North: From the A1 take the A61 to Thirsk then the A170 to Helmsley. Before Helmsley turn right onto the B1257 and follow the brown signs. If you are towing a caravan please follow the signs for the route to avoid Sutton Bank – these are clearly marked. From the South: Take the A1M to Junction 45 and follow the A64 east to York. Continue past York and eventually you will pick up the brown signs for Castle Howard. Please be aware of height restrictions at the Gate House. If your vehicle is over H 3.43m x W 2.60m please access Castle Howard via Malton and Coneysthorpe. A brown sign will direct you from Malton town centre along Castle Howard Drive.

Parking

Spectators will pay a nominal fee for car parking on the estate and entry in to the grounds: adults – £5, children aged between 6 – 15 years old – £3 (40% adult discount, 50% child discount on normal castle grounds entrance costs). The estate will be marked where spectators can watch and position themselves around the course. All competitors are free and children taking part in the 8-15yrs races can bring in 1 adult per competing child for free. All money collected on the day is being used to help improve the estate for the benefit of the triathlons next year and for future years. It is advisable to bring cash to the event. An additional payment will need to be purchased to gain access to the Castle itself.

Cut Off Times

For health and safety reasons for both the competitors and swim safety team we have to have cut-off times in the water. These are as follows:

1 Mile – 90 mins

2.5K – 2 hours

5K – 3 hours
