Organiser's Description
The Dee Way 120 has a 50 hour time limit, and is a non stop race between Llanwchllyn and Prestatyn, with 8 (all indoor) checkpoints where you may refuel, change, sleep as you wish.
For the full event - a TEAM can be entered, between 2 and 6 members in total, in a relay format, with each changeover taking place at one of the 8 Checkpoints.
The Dee Way 60 has a time limit of 20 hours, and participants start their journey at night, joining the 120 pack at 11pm, as they make their way through Corwen. Access to 4 checkpoints (all indoor) is available to you along this route between Corwen and Chester.
The River Dee is a mighty river, born on the rough slopes of Dduallt, South West of the village of Llanwchllyn in North Wales. It makes a dramatic descent to the valley populated by Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake), then passes through incredibly scenic 'quiet' areas of North Wales - the villages of Llandderfel, Llandrillo and Cynwyd are passed, before Glyndwr country arrives, and the settlements of Corwen and Glyndyfyrdwy mark the start of the breathtaking Vale of Llangollen.
The route stays above the valley here, allowing fantastic views down to the River which gives the event it's name, and beyond. Llangollen, Froncysyllte come and go, as does Chirk bank before crossing the border into Cheshire, and briefly Shropshire, Dee country! Wide and meandering by this point, the Dee passes picturesque Overton and Erbistock and the dash towards the sea begins as Worthenbury, Farndon and Shocklache are passed. Then it's a flat and quaint approach to the Roman City of Chester via Eccleston, and you'll soon be on the Wales coast path right beside the river - leaving the hills from earlier in the route well behind, as the tidal limit is reached and passed, before you pass Flint Castle, Mostyn, the spectacular lighthouse at Talacre and after Gronant dunes - a triumphant finish at Prestatyn - awaiting those that are still in the game!
