Event summary
The Llangollen 50k 2023, organized by Out-Fit Events, is set to take place on Sunday, 11th June 2023, in the picturesque town of Llangollen, Denbighshire. This challenging race offers participants the opportunity to explore the stunning Dee Valley, with a well-marked course that includes two 15-mile linear routes on either side of the river. With three checkpoints featuring vegan-friendly food options and breathtaking views along the way, this event is perfect for experienced racers looking to tackle an ultra distance or those looking to transition into ultra running. Finishers will receive a unique wooden medal to commemorate their achievement, making it a day to remember in the hills above Llangollen. Be sure to come prepared with the required kit and get ready for a memorable day of racing in North Wales!

Organiser's Description
A new race that took place for the first time in 2021 - in this truly beautiful area of North Wales. The town of Llangollen sits in the Dee Valley, and our route uses 2 way marked 15 mile linear routes (plus a little extra to gain the magic 50k!) either side of the river, to create a spectacular, challenging excursion in and above the valley.

With a well marked course, 3 check points with feed stations and great faciltiies at the starting/finishing area, it'll be a great option for experienced racers at this distance, but also an ideal way to move into ULTRA Running for those less experienced. Rest assured, there will be plenty of walking for the great majority of participants, given the nature of some of the ascents, but it'll allow time to take in the amazing views around you and enjoy support and encouragement from fellow runners, that Ultra Distance is known for!
Checkpoint Locations
Checkpoints shall be vegan friendly, and stocked with suitable nutiritional products from the likes of Nine Bar and Mountain Fuel.

It may be useful for recces, to know that the 2 existing linear routes that we are linking up, are the Dee Valley Way, which you'll take first to Corwen, before joining up with the North Berwyn Way for the route back in. You'll get through nearly 7000ft of ascent over the course of the route, which reaches a high point on the Berwyn hilltop of Moel Fferna, at 2071ft.

Finishers will receive a bespoke wooden medal, marking a great achievement, in addition to some memories of a wonderful day out in the hills above Llangollen!
KIT REQUIREMENT
Due to the demanding nature of the event in terms of distance and terrain, all runners must be prepared to run with the following, and we'll detail exactly what you need closer to race day, depending on the weather conditions.
- Full body waterproof cover
- Hat & Gloves
- Buff
- Map & Route Description (provided by organiser)
- Compass
- Start with at least 1 litre of water
- Fully charged mobile phone
- Foil blanket
Race Day Information.
Start, Finish & Registration location: Llangollen Leisure Centre
Registration time: 07.40am, 08.10am and 08.40am, for each wave.
Race Start: 08:00am (Wave 1) 08:30am (Wave 2), 09:00am (Wave 3)
A cut off of 10 hours/6pm Finish shall be enforced, with the appropriate closure of checkpoints that reflect this. Therefore, competitors reaching the checkpoints after the following times shall be retired from the race:
CP 1 - 10.45am
CP 2 - 1pm
CP 3 - 4pm
