This was my first trail race and I loved it. Two brutal hills done twice with a relaxing valley run between each lap to recover. The autumn colours were perfect too, I could’ve done it all day if it wasn’t so knackering.

The run was fantastic, very challenging with 6 sections with very steep hills where most people walked. Do yourself a service and add serious calf and core strengthening to you regime training for this race. There were some parts that were on treated paths, but mostly in the woods with plenty of mud. Don't expect any frills like t-shirts or event villages, this is a small, bare bones event. It's all about the challenge. Great marshalling and guidance out in the woods, good spacing on the water stations.

I did the 10k and it was definitely a tough one. There were a couple of really big hills and there was a lot of mud to weave around or wade through so maybe not for a first timer. I was a bit worried out the car parking as it was in a field as we have had a lot of rain, the car was sliding as I drove through the field but thankfully didn't get stuck. There were several toilets and a food van so that was handy. It wasn't a large event and the atmosphere was a bit lacking compared to other events I've done. This was my first wooden medal, so it is a bit different which is nice but not the most impressive. It doesn't even have the year on it. A bit disappointing as I do like collecting the medals.
