The Sunset Running Festival 2023

Sat 24th June 2023

Two people smile broadly at the camera after a race. The person on the left wears a black and red shirt, while the person on the right wears an orange tank top, blue cap, and sports a race bib labeled "448" along with a medal. Trees and a blue sky form the background. A large group of runners gather at the starting line of an outdoor race. Many are dressed in brightly colored athletic gear. The background features lush green trees and a clear, sunny sky. A few people at the front appear to be giving instructions. A group of runners in race attire stands together on a road for a photo, each wearing a numbered bib. They smile and pose for the camera with a scenic landscape of fields and a distant horizon behind them. The weather is sunny and clear. Three women in blue T-shirts with medals around their necks and holding brown paper bags stand together, smiling after a race event. They are outdoors with a white tent and trees in the background. It appears to be a rainy day as one person in the background holds an umbrella. A person is jogging along a path during sunset, with the sun casting a warm glow on the surroundings. Trees frame the path on both sides, and another person walks in the distance. The sky is partly cloudy with hints of blue and orange hues.

Excellent organisation and really friendly welcome on arrival and registration. Nice flat course and very scenic route long the shoreline. The 3 laps for the half marathon are set up for fast times. Would certainly recommend giving this event support in the future.

I live locally and really loved having an event on my doorstep. I met a number of friends old and new most of whom I wasn't aware that they had also entered. I ran with one friend who I hadn't seem for several years and we discovered as we talked at the start line that we were aiming for the same time - so ran together. The event was very very well organised and I was really impressed how well it went. I thought the three stations went well but there was quite a queue for the registration. Perhaps a separate tent for the marathon would have worked better? Also 4 loos was maybe 2 short? There is always a queue for these in events to be fair but I joined a queue at 4.25pm and had only 10 mins spare before the race - there were 30 people behind me who I guess might have got a little tense at that point. Nevertheless the helpers were amazing and so cheerful. A good number of spectators at the start and finish line - a little thin elsewhere. I'm glad I did the half marathon I think the marathon would have been hard work without cheering at 65% of the course. Overall a 5 star review with only a couple of suggestions for improvement.
