The Tafol Tumble 8k

Dovey Yacht Club, Aberdovey, Gwynedd

Dovey Yacht Club, Aberdovey, Gwynedd LL35 0EB

Sat 19th September 2020

Starting at 09:30

Organiser's Description

Starting from the Aberdovey beach, swim 4k around the Jetty, on past the picturesque village and Penhelig corner, carry on past the Roman Road, Picnic Island, The Outward Bound Trust, the small castle (Trefri), and on all the way to a pebbly beach where the River Tafol joins the River Dovey at the settlement of Abertafol. This is the half-way mark.

At Abertafol you will 'tumble-turn' and swim back to Aberdovey - your tumble roughly coincides with the turning of the tide.

By rail: Aberdovey railway station, about 0.5 miles away, is on the picturesque Cambrian Coast line, with passenger services calling at all stations between Machynlleth and Pwllheli, including Tywyn, Barmouth, Harlech and Porthmadog. Aberdovey is also serviced by a request stop at Penhelig.

Course Details

Expect the middle third of this swim to be the most challenging as it is likely that you will be swimming against a little tide during this time. Oh and the last 100m is good fun, swimming across a significant tide into the salvation of Aberdovey beach!

The Tafol Tumble is 8k of challenging, engaging and adventurous swimming. The first and last third will be tide-assisted, the middle third will be close to neutral, with the potential for some swimming against a little tide for a short period of time.
