How To Get There

By car: You can easily get to Dalkeith Country Park from the Edinburgh city bypass. Take the exit for Dalkeith from the Sheriffhall Roundabout on to Old Dalkeith Road. Turn left shortly after this into King’s Gate. You’ll drive through a long stretch of woodland before you get to the Park. The postcode is EH22 2NA.

By bike: Dalkeith Country Park is perfect for cyclists. We have bike racks available and recommend using the Town Gate entrance (postcode EH22 2NA) or Smeaton Gate for bikes (closest to the National Cycle Route).

On foot: The best entrance if you’re walking is Town Gate (postcode EH22 2NA).

By bus: If you’re coming from Edinburgh city centre, take Lothian Buses 3, 33, 49 from Edinburgh to Dalkeith. Jump off on Dalkeith High Street, the walk is then 5-10 minutes up the High Street to the Park. From Portobello or Musselburgh, catch the number 140 East Coast bus. From Bonnyrigg take the 49 bus. Both take you to the Corn Exchange Bus Stop on Dalkeith High Street and you can walk from here.

By train: You can use the new Borders' Railway to get to Dalkeith Country Park. There are regular trains from the Borders and Edinburgh City Centre to Eskbank Station. You can then walk from here (25 minutes) or get on the number 40 Lothian Bus from outside the Tesco opposite the station to Dalkeith High Street.

Course Details

The course is designed to be difficult and the terrain is at times muddy, slippery and can be potentially dangerous. You will be wet after the first couple of miles. You must be able to swim 50m if you attempt the Walk the Plank obstacle. If you do not feel comfortable about completing an obstacle, do not attempt it - move on to the next.

Running alone? We’ve got your back. In 2020 all events will have designated solo runner waves so you can meet other lone wolves, form a muddy pack and get goal-crushing.

TM Scotland seems to be getting less tough and less muddy. Shame that Tough mudder seems to be getting less tough and less muddy year on year. The obstacles are always great and clearly take thought and a brilliant level of build you can only really get at these events. Its a really good event for a family and friends team thats for sure. Shame to see the mile of mud being more like a 30meters of mud nowadays and the Block ness monster a definite favourite being only two blocks long this year.
