Course Details

Not everyone thinks about incredible views and countryside when they think about Manchester, but just a stone’s throw away from the city streets is a glorious landscape waiting to be discovered.

This event will start from a well-known venue close to the city-centre that also has great transport links.

The Trail Escape : Manchester marathon route will follow a traffic-free route along tranquil green corridors out of the city to easily reach the stunning western edge of the stunning Peak District National Park.

After enjoying breathtaking views back towards the city, the route will then cross moorland and rolling hills, and pass through picturesque villages before re-joining the green corridor to return back into the city and the well earned finish line.

Further route details will be provided soon.

What's Included

FULLY SUPPORTED ROUTE

Explore trails outside of the city with peace of mind. All of the events will be fully supported with way-finding and marshals just like a traditional road marathon.

Along the way, there will be Aid Stations in place with fuel and hydration to help you along the way. Cheer points and music will enhance the experience that is Trail Escape.

At all Trail Escapes there will be an Event Village at the start and finish of each Trail Escape event offering food, drink, and a place for family and friends to enjoy the event whilst you are running.

Friends & family will be able to see you off at the start, maybe see you on the route at a key location and then meet you after your challenge to celebrate with you.

This will be a timed event but not necessarily a race.

While there will be categories for fastest finishers (and KOM / QOM challenges on the way), your goal is to enjoy running or walking on these incredible routes. Stopping to enjoy the views is strongly encouraged.

Forget the pressure of chasing PBs or worrying about split times. Trail Escape is about enjoying the environment we are taking you through on your way to getting that medal for finishing a Trail Escape marathon.

FAQs

  • What is included in my entry fee?

All Trail Escapes will be timed. Routes will be well marshalled and signed throughout. Aid stations will provide hydration and nutrition. All finishers will receive an event T-shirt and Medal

  • Will the route distance be accurate?

We will do our best to create routes that are as close to 26.2miles as possible but given the nature of off-road running it is difficult to be as accurate with route distances as road running events. We will ensure that each route is at least 26.2miles and will communicate closer to event day the exact distance.

  • Can spectators access the route?

There will be plenty of spots for your supporters to cheer you on across the route. We are working on the detail of the most scenic, easy to reach and safe locations for spectating and we will be able to share in due course.

  • What time does the event start?

Trail Escape Marathon's are split into two categories - Run and Hike/Walk. If you plan to run or run/walk then you need to select this choice in the booking journey and you will start at 8am. If you plan to hike/walk the Trail Escape Marathon then please choose this option in the booking journey and you will start at 8.15am

  • Can I run with my dog?

TBC. We are planning routes that may go across farmland and near to livestock and there may be issues with dogs accessing this land. Once routes are confirmed we will be able to confirm whether dogs are able to join you.

  • What is the age limit?

All runners and hike/walkers must be 18 or older on day the event takes place.

  • What is the difference between Run and Hike/Walk?

There is no difference in the route or terrain. All participants will follow the same route. The difference in categories are to make sure all runners access the route first and ensure runners are not overtaking walkers. We expect the routes to be single-tracks in places so to be fair to all we need to split people out.

  • Will there be a cut-off time?

Yes there will be cut-off times for each Trail Escape. At this stage in our planning we are working to a 10hr time-limit, which is less than 3miles per hour. The routes will be clearly marked and marshalled to ensure participants don't get lost.

  • Can I transfer or defer my entry?

Yes we will accept transfers and deferrals. The will be a £10 admin fee to manage the changes.

  • Can I transfer my entry to another event?

Yes! For example you may enter Trail Escape City No.1 but change your mind and want to take part in City No.2. We will allow you to transfer your entry to a different Trail Escape city for an admin fee of £10.

  • Can I get a refund?

We are afraid we cannot offer refunds. If the event is postponed your entry will automatically be deferred to the new event date. If you cannot take part in the new date you can transfer your entry to another person, or defer your entry to a future event?

event village

At all Trail Escapes there will be an Event Village at the start and finish of each Trail Escape event offering food, drink, and a place for family and friends to enjoy the event whilst you are running.

Friends & family will be able to see you off at the start, maybe see you on the route at a key location and then meet you after your challenge to celebrate with you.

If a finish location is different to the start location (as it will be at the third Trail Escape), we will transport your kit from start to finish.
