Course Details

It’s a fantastic course with very little elevation gain. Starting on South Downs Road the race heads north west towards Bowdon Cricket & Hockey Club before turning right onto Marlborough Road, passing Altrincham Grammar and then turning right at the Bowdon traffic lights on Ashley Road.

The race then travels along Ashley Road, past the clock tower and over the railway heading straight down the road past all the shops and restaurants before heading out into the Ashley countryside. Just after 4km the route forks left down Castle Mill Lane, until a right turn down Back Lane just before 6km.

At the end of Back Lane the race turns right onto Tanyard Lane and left onto Castle Mill Lane again heading the opposite direction. This is where the lead runners will be visible to the main field of runners with the road split into 2. At the junction the route takes a left turn onto Cow Lane, following the road under the M56 and into Ashley village. At The Greyhound Pub the route goes right onto the Knutsford road, passing Ashley Station and then turning right into the South Gate of Ashley Hall.

The race then continues along the private lane all the way to Ashley Hall and the finish.

The course was lovely, but you can’t get there on public transport and so we ended up sat for 45 mins in a queue for the car park crawling along.
Thank you for your feedback. We did experience some traffic flow issues due to the heavy rain overnight but we will ensure this is resolved for next year.

I enjoyed the atmosphere and the run itself very much, but the time before the start was very stressful. Parking and toilet facilities were problematic. It took me an hour from joining the queue for the car park to get to the race start. More matting was needed on the field as cars were getting stuck and 6 loos at the race start and end locations were not enough.
Thank you for your feedback. We take all comments on board and will be working hard to improve operations for next year to resolve the issues. There were 8 loos at Ashley Hall and 12 at the 10K start line, but we will be increasing this for next year.
